Description

 

The Food Science Extension Outreach Specialist will plan, develop, implement and evaluate innovative educational programs and workshops in the field of Food Safety and Food Processing.  Collaborate with colleagues on disciplinary and interdisciplinary programs that enhance the profitability and sustainability of Food Safety. Seek external funds to enhance educational goals and/or participate in grant-funded projects with Extension colleagues and faculty within Purdue and outside. Prepare reports required by Purdue Cooperative Extension, the State of Indiana, and other funders.  Build and maintain relationships with faculty and staff in Food Science, College of Agriculture (CoA) extension, Purdue University and Indiana extension educators and Stakeholders. Promote educational programs and maintain public recognition of Extension programs in the Department of Food Science regarding Food Safety, processing and regulatory issues.  Serve on Extension and departmental committees as appropriate.

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Food Science.
  • One years of experience working in the Food Industry such as food production and processing, quality assurance and control, technical representation in the sale and marketing of foods, food product development, food science research, and regulation, enforcement of food laws, or related responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated competency in presenting educational programs and workshops using computers and current communication technology (e.g. presentation software, video conferencing, and online reporting systems).
  • Proven effective listening, verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of HACCP, HARPC, FSMA, and working with the Food and Drug Administration. 
  • Self-directed with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability work effectively and collaboratively with coworkers and clients with a variety of values and interests.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Food Science.
