What We Are Looking For: We’re looking for a Food Safety Supplier Manager to conduct second party periodic audits of both current and potential suppliers across commodities, on an annual and as needed basis. Evaluation will be based on both regulatory guidelines and internal quality and food safety expectations. These evaluations will be inclusive of, but not limited to; recall systems and protocols, in-process product testing.

Responsibilities and Tasks 

  • Facilitate communication between suppliers and Blue Apron. Working cohesively with the procurement team.
  • Participate in the development and continual improvement of the approved supplier programs.
  • Assure accuracy of records and documentation of customer requirements.
  • Participate in development of quality, food safety and customer requirements ensuring specifications accurately and completely depict the requirements for a product.
  • Report progress of vendor/supplier to the Director of Food Safety.
  • Participate in research and development, as it related to different products and packaging requirements.

Minimum Skill Levels and Work Experience

  • Bachelors of Science/Bachelors of Arts Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Animal Science, Biology, Microbiology, or other closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Food Safety Manager, or minimum 4 years of experience as a Food Safety Supervisor in a food processing and/or manufacturing environment.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in Quality Processes and Systems (e.g. SPC, HACCP, SSOP and GMPs).
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of regulatory requirements related to USDA, and FDA registered facilities. Working knowledge of FSMA and impacts to the industries that Blue Apron will be working with.
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, with all levels of staff, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Experience with vendor relations in order to achieve goals.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in quality systems, food safety, and SPC.
  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building effective relationships with outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.

TRAVEL:

60-70% travel.
