Description

Summary: Oversee all activities in the Quality Assurance department of the Fresh-cut vegetable operation to comply with company standards and with USDA FSIS based food safety program. Maintain high quality standards of products through implementation and verification of quality systems and management of resources in the quality assurance department. Provide technical support and training to different operation groups in the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Implement and enforce quality systems to help comply with company and HACCP based food safety programs.
  • Review and verify quality assurance and sanitation records to comply with food safety program.
  • Provide training to quality assurance personnel as part of associate development program.
  • Provide technical support to operations group as needed.
  • Generate weekly and period end quality reports for local and corporate review.
  • Conduct GMP, HACCP inspections on a regular basis and follow-up on corrective actions.
  • Assist inspectors during audits and provide corrective actions as needed.
  • Plan and conduct quality improvement projects.
  • Prepare and present food safety programs to prospective customers and also during quality management and food safety audits.
  • Must have knowledge of food safety programs (HACCP, GMPs, Sanitation, Pest Control, Safe Quality Food (SQF 2000 level 3), and Organic Guidelines.
  • Must have knowledge of USDA FSIS requirements and must be able to work directly with onsite inspectors.
  • Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product.

                                                                                                                                                                

Supervisory Responsibilities                                             

Manages Quality Assurance supervisor/s who lead a team of Ready Pac associates in the Quality Assurance Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience                                             

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from a four-year college or university in Food Science and a minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance in a food-processing environment.

Language Skills                                           

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills                                                 

Must be able to use mathematical concepts as needed.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Should have current driver's license.

Other Skills and Abilities

Should have knowledge of Statistical Process Control, HACCP, and GMP. Must be familiar with lab instrumentation and basic chemistry, micro, and sciences.

Other Qualifications

Position requires occasional travel to other facilities to provide technical support and travel to audit vendors.
