Job Description

The Department of Food Science and Technology ( invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track research and teaching faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of food processing. The individual will be expected to develop and establish a nationally and internationally recognized research program, obtaining extramural funding from a wide variety of funding sources with emphasis on competitive and industry funding. The individual is expected to work collaboratively and effectively with industry and scientists from different fields of discipline, developing interdisciplinary projects to address basic and applied science challenges, to advance knowledge, and extend that knowledge to industry and to the public. Ideally, the candidate will support research efforts in processing aspects of food fermentations. The candidate is expected to teach a food processing course and laboratory and a course within the candidate‚??s area of expertise. Qualified candidates will demonstrate the ability to mentor graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) and undergraduate students and be committed to service in department, college and university committees, as well as appropriate professional organizations.  

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in food science, chemistry, food engineering or related discipline is required. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated ability for teaching in a classroom setting and commitment to quality student education, and demonstrated ability to develop and conduct scholarly research, both independently and collaboratively. The individual shall create an environment that fosters collegiality and diversity.  

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to write competitive research proposals, industry or post-doctoral research experience are desired.
