Job Description

Summary:  Proactive leadership in the development and implementation of the quality vision, infrastructure, and systems needed to protect and enhance the Boston Market brand relative to food safety, product quality, consistency, conformance to quality and safety standards, and emerging issues (e.g. animal welfare, foodborne illness outbreak). 

Essential Functions

  • Maintains quality and safety standards for all product components and finished products.
  • Ensures all food and packaging components and finished products meet specifications as designed by Research & Development and Supply Chain departments. 
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of new and existing food ingredient specifications. 
  • Creates systems and infrastructure to increase predictable product consistency and reduce variation to the consumer.
  • Assesses and mitigates product and food safety risks to protect the brand. 
  • Ensures all processes of Quality Assurance are established, and maintained, and thoroughly and accurately documented. 
  • Designs and implements the preparation and review of Quality Plans, Inspection, Test Plans, and Inspection.
  • Ensures continuous improvement, philosophies, practices, and processes are implemented and documented across the enterprise. 
  • Works directly and indirectly with suppliers to ensure the appropriate quality infrastructure is in place to execute the product quality plan. 
  • Maintains quality assurance databases and acts as the key administrator.
  • Provides continuous updates and reporting for all QA activities, including regulatory. 
  • Manages the technical relationship with suppliers involved in the supply chain product category.
  • Assists in quality checks on new and existing food ingredients to insure adherence to outlined specifications.
  • Fields emails from the QA hotline (customer service) for support of any technical, quality, public health, or food safety issues and questions.
  • Prepares food items and presentation for sensory and technical evaluations during weekly product cuttings.   
  • Provides relevant assessments of food safety and supply chain risk to senior management as needed. 
  • Provides ongoing coaching and training to supply partners.
  • Establishes and builds open lines of communication with both internal and external customers. 
  • Regular and punctual attendance. 
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This is largely a sedentary role.  This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bending or standing on a stool as necessary. 

Tolerate temperature extremes (not and cold) in working in walk-in and around ovens and sinks.

Ability to lift boxes up to 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Additional hours may be required.

Travel

This position may require minimal, infrequent travel. 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Biology, Food Technology, related field or equivalent work experience. 
  • 10 years of experience in food quality assurance, sensory evaluation and product safety; food production, HACCP systems, microbiology, and food borne illness.     
  • 5 years of experience in planning, managing, and reporting quality assurance audits.
  • 5 years of experience managing teams.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree. 
  • Experience executing quality assurance in the restaurant industry.
