Salt & Straw is a small batch, handmade ice cream
company based in Portland, OR and Los Angeles, CA. We started this company
because we love to create great neighborhood places,
which means supporting local artisans, contributing to local PTAs
and taking care of our team. We take a lot of pride that our ice cream is a
reflection of the local community, so our entire menu is written using
local cream and collaborating with a cast of farmers, chefs, cheese-makers,
brewers and butchers from all over Oregon and California.
Our kitchen is a crazy fun combination of high end pastry making and
lean-focused manufacturing. Our head chef, Tyler Malek,
has won multiple awards in the food industry including Forbes 30 Under 30,
and Eaterís Young Guns Finalists. On top of that, our kitchen team is
constantly working with the best chefs in the world for inspiration,
training and collaboration. Our kitchen teams makes everything from scratch
and puts incredibly innovative passion behind their work, resulting in one
of the most dynamic pastry kitchens to work for in the country.
For this position: Our R&D Specialists work on a small team to
help create recipes; produce prototypes; create training material; produce
creative assets like photos and videos; build clear and concise recipes, a
bill of materials and spec sheets; and provide Q&A support during pre-
and post-production of a new product. Our flavors rotate monthly and
require a nimble R&D team to ensure we are developing, marketing and
serving the best ice cream in the world.
2+ years working in a professional pastry kitchen / bakery
BS with major in Food Science / Food Supply Chains
2+ years of professional recipe (or other food-related spec sheets) writing
Knowledge of current pastry scene and recent developments/trends
Experience with photography, lighting, composition and graphic design a
40 hours of PTO (after 90 days)
