Purpose of Role

The role provides R&D support and leadership of global innovation and QES initiatives within the Petcare Business Unit, aligned with its strategic focus areas and technology platforms. This position supports all Dry GIC activities, including consumer research, early-stage prototyping, planning and execution of pilot-scale trials, and capture and communication of research outcomes. Significant collaboration is expected with other product developers, process engineering, packaging development, and across multiple disciplines within R&D, as well as cross-functional teams outside of R&D. The role requires technical knowledge of relevant food processes and technologies and the ability to think creatively while applying problem solving skills towards the validation of product concepts and technologies.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Plan and execute Dry GIC research activities and support the activities led by Product Development Scientists. Document and communicate research outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation and use of knowledge capture tools at the Dry GIC. Develop understanding of relevant customer and consumer insights, local market activities (Mars and competitors), and global human and pet food trends. Regularly communicate key trends to Dry GIC team and other stakeholders as necessary.
  • Establish strong working relationships with local and global cross-functional teams including Product Development, Product Performance, Quality and Food Safety, Commercial, Innovation and Analytical Labs, and Consumer and Technical Insights.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of Mars Inc. business processes and their applications to this position.
  • Creation and protection of intellectual property of Mars, Inc.

  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to document, organize and summarize project results through verbal and written communications.
  • Demonstrated experience in ingredient functionality in food product design through proven application of laboratory and statistics methodologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of a broad range food processing and manufacturing technologies, including extrusion, baking, along with industry regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Food Engineering, or related field.
