Position Overview                       

This position is located at one of Edward Marc’s off-site manufacturing facilities. As a member of the Quality team, the Food Safety & Quality Assurance Specialist will assume a critical role in championing quality assurance and food safety activities in order to deliver products and services to meet the high expectations of the company’s leadership and customers. The Specialist will have overall responsibilities for working with the FSQA Manager to maintain the quality strategy for Edward Marc products throughout the manufacturing process. Primary responsibilities will include executing quality strategies, implementing effective and efficient quality programs, conducting internal audits, maintaining regulatory compliance and assuring ingredient integrity. The ideal candidate will be a proven team member, have strong technical skills and knowledge, and have exceptional oral and written communication skills.


Essential Functions

  • Audit production and facilities operations to ensure adherence to food safety program standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP, SQF)
  • Ensure compliance / audit readiness by reviewing all quality systems, SOPs, and QPs
  • Provide leadership and guidance in consumer and product safety, product quality, regulatory, and technical excellence
  • Manage multiple objectives and assure the safety and quality of all products that leave manufacturing facility
  • Work as liaison amongst team members across different facilities and departments to ensure proper execution of initiatives
  • Support the internal auditing program, assessing the performance of the quality system, reporting its effectiveness to management, and proposing actions for improvement
  • Summarize and communicate appropriately site quality vision/state of quality to EMB management
  • Enable and maintain a culture of quality awareness and compliance
  • Assure all internal and external sampling requirements are executed and delivered to meet site and company requirements in a timely manner
  • In conjunction with the EMB team, track, report, and review the Quality Performance Indicators on a regular basis to drive continuous improvement
  • Assist with maintaining regulatory relationships and inspections of EMB product operations
  • Ensure adherence to good hygienic practice, pest management programs, cleaning procedures, and clear zoning principles in the factory
  • Assist in customer/consumer complaint investigation and resolution
  • Conduct effective root cause analysis and implement corrective action and prevention action
  • Ensure that products are produced to specification to meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Work Safety – Ensures that all tasks and functions of position are performed in a safe manner at all times and that all procedures and requirements are properly followed to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Food Safety/Quality – Responsible for food safety and quality as well as reporting food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in quality, R&D, or operations roles in food manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated capability to work on a small to mid-sized quality team
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to work in conjunction with team members across remote locations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related field
  • Exemplary people, decision-making, and process leadership abilities
  • Experience with implementing HACCP and SQF programs
  • HACCP and SQF certifications strongly preferred
  • Ability to work different schedules as needed for testing and projects
  • Familiarity with FoodSafety, allergen assessment, and regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of plant information systems (e.g., ERP systems)
  • Creative thinking to deliver innovative solutions
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate
  • Ability to communicate ideas/technical information in an easily understandable way
  • Strong project management and planning skills with proven ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
  • Chocolate or confection experience preferred
