FOOD QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER - Eagle Beverage; Kent, WA

COMPANY OVERVIEW: Eagle Beverage, a fast growing, specialty beverage manufacturer in Kent, WA, focuses on private label syrups, cocktail mixers and powders. Manufacturing since 1972 the company has over 500 SKUs of products and is looking for a dynamic, energetic and committed Quality Assurance Manager.

GENERAL SCOPE: The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring that our products meet standards set by both Eagle Beverage Products and also by regulatory agencies as applicable. The manager would also be responsible for ongoing development/review of corporate quality and safety policies for compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and ensure ongoing improvement of the food safety program via internal audits and employee training
  • Ongoing implementation and maintenance of HACCP/HARPC plan
  • Act as HACCP/HARPC plan coordinator
  • Assistance with compliance to the plant’s HACCP/HARPC program including facilitation of meetings, CCP compliance monitoring, documentation of corrective actions, etc.
  • Ongoing implementation and maintenance of programs as outlined in the corporate Quality Control Manual
  • Act as primary contact for federal (FDA), state (WSDA), local and third-party audits
  • Act as recall coordinator for mock recall and recall as needed
  • Coordinate the “Hold” and “Release” program including “Hold” notification and dispositions
  • Advise management team about plant food safety/food quality trends; Recommend corrective actions of all deficiencies identified by internal audits; Ensure corrective actions are assigned and completed in a timely manner
  • Work with production manager to manage the plant sanitation program; Provide technical expertise/recommendations as needed
  • Oversee environmental swabbing program and monthly microbiological testing program
  • Assist in handling customer complaints and inquiries pertaining to quality issues
  • Issue Certificates of Analysis (COAs) as needed or required by customers
  • Coordinate and maintain quality data collection
  • Develop formal specification program for raw materials, finished products, packaging and labels
  • Assist in providing technical assistance to production including plant trials, ingredient and product wholesomeness
  • Assist in providing technical assistance to production planner/scheduler in regard to allergen control program/possible cross-contamination issues
  • Work with straw production manager and staff to provide support/expertise for cleaning/sanitation in the straw production area; Also provide technical support /training for sanitation testing protocols and other testing protocols as they relate to (straw) product quality and performance

QUALIFICATIONS:
-BS degree in food science or a related field such as chemistry, biology or microbiology
-Minimum 5-8 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Food Safety or a related field; Beverage industry experience is a plus
-Knowledge of production equipment and processes; Knowledge of acidified food processing
-Ability to analyze situations and make decisions
-Must be HACCP certified
-Experience with SQF certification desirable
-Must be well versed in FSPCA preventative controls for human food and have completed training as a “preventative controls qualified individual”
-Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Strong computer skills including use of MS Word and Excel
