Buhler Aeroglide manufactures industrial conveyor dryer, ovens, roasters, toasters and coolers for a variety of food, animal feed and non-food industries. Duties:

As Food Technologist, you will provide process technology support services with a focus on food safety, in the field, to include evaluation of drying equipment, identification of dryer improvement potential relating to energy saving, capacity increase or product quality improvement, optimization of dryer conditions, trouble shoot potential inefficiencies in drying process, and provide feedback for potential methods to improve equipment use. You will also, provide training and education on food safety, drying theory and equipment. The Food Technologist is on the road the majority of the time traveling to customer sites all over the world. Duties include:

• Schedule and perform customer site visits to complete evaluations, process commissioning, and/or training activities; prepare proposal for site visits.
• Domestic and international travel required (approximately 110 to 130 days per year, including overnights and some extended travel)
• Write reports and recommend solutions based on site visit observations and theoretical background.
• Perform dryer evaluations, including: inspecting dryer for food safety concerns, best practices and potential improvements; inspecting dryers for mechanical integrity (look for missing and/or damaged parts) to improve dryer operation; collect process data to create a baseline of a dryers operation. Make any necessary process improvements and take another full data sample to show improvements vs. baseline measurements
• Help establish food safety specific evaluation program
• Troubleshoot potential inefficiencies in drying process and provide feedback for possible methods to improve equipment use.
• Perform dryer commissioning, including providing process support for Buhler Aeroglide dryer installations; and providing feedback to operations, engineering for required modifications to equipment
• Provide training and education to customers on drying theory and equipment, including coordinating all logistics for presenters and attendees at seminars; preparing customized training material for on-site customers; helping develop small dryer focused food safety training sessions; and helping develop food safety specific seminar
• Submit service contracts for billing
• Manage tools and equipment needed to perform on-site evaluations
• Interact with capital sales and parts sales teams to update on customer needs and satisfaction with their technical requests
• Interact with operations to update on equipment improvement.
• Develop process & food safety articles for publication in trade magazines
• Manage document templates needed to deliver quality material to customers

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field
• 1-3 years’ experience in a food science or technical role
• Fluent command of technical English language (oral and written)
• Domestic and international travel required (approximately 110 to 130 days per year, including overnights and some extended travel)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly and effectively communicate in person and in writing, both internally and externally
• Ability to work with minimal supervision; make decisions independently and effectively within established Company and customer guidelines
• Proficiency with MS Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
