This role serves as part of a team that is a key component of the Food Safety program at Conagra Brands.  The person filling this role must be able to function independently to help design and implement food safety programs within given areas of the food safety and quality group. The incumbent provides platform-wide leadership on focused Foreign Material (FM) initiatives and responses (both proactive and reactive) to assure minimized impact of FM issues to Conagra Brands and to its customers. Thus, the Senior Food Safety Specialist must be an effective listener and communicator, knowledgeable yet humble, both a leader and a team player, and energetic and enthusiastic about the food safety goals and objectives.

o    Provides strategic and technical input and coordination to identify Best in Class technological innovations that can be employed on CAG production lines (including Co-manufacturers) to better exclude, detect and remove foreign materials.

o    Seeks cross-enterprise and industry input into a documented and formalized set of best practices including developing, implementing and reviewing foreign material policies and procedures, tracking and trending FM events and complaints, as well as implementing a Failure Mode Effects Analysis process to identify and reduce risk of FM introduction

o    Creates and maintains a decision tree to assist plant staff in training and mentoring all levels of plant employees in executing the most appropriate response to FM incidents

o    Responsible for providing technical guidance during special situation events including insuring adequate assessment of risk due to FM incidents and partnering with plant management in making logical, data-based product dispositions.

o    Provide guidance and leadership to manufacturing facilities regarding the implementation and management of risk based preventive controls (ex: CCPs, PPs etc) for foreign material management; Will serve as an extended member of the HACCP/HARPC team who reviews and approves food safety plans

o    Collaborates and communicates issues to affected functional groups (including Supplier quality, external manufacturers)  and business units to ensure regulatory information, interpretations and guidance are developed; ensures that CAG Regulatory & Scientific resources are consulted and efforts are aligned to appropriately address broader compliance issues.

o    Update existing food safety policies and procedures through direct collaboration with cross-functional teams (including Senior Leadership Team) within food safety and quality

o    Interacts with key internal stakeholders such as Operations, Supply Chain Quality, Supplier Quality, external manufacturers and others on food safety-related issues, policies, programs and procedures

Position Requirements:

o    B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Ag Engineering or Food Science or a technically related field required; MS preferred.

o    Minimum of 5 years industry experience preferred.

o    Strong skills in problem-solving, proven abilities to interpret diverse data sets in a logical and rational fashion.

o    Experience with food safety, food manufacturing processes, technologies or other relevant area of responsibility.

o    HACCP training required; SQF Practitioner or BRC training course a plus

o    Knowledge of statistics is a strong plus

o    Excellent report writing, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

o    Demonstrated project management skills

o    Ability to travel upto 25% of the time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible ConAgra Foods, Inc. representative.

o    Sitting for up to 8 hours a day.
