Senior Manager, Quality Assurance



The position is responsible for the direction, oversight, development, and implementation of the pet brands  involving Quality Assurance, Sanitation and Food Safety Programs within the pet manufacturing  facilities. This position is in place to ensure the production of safe products that meet our customer’s requirements, and provides direction for corporate quality programs at the manufacturing sites.



·         Develop and implement Work Instructions, Process Control Points, Finished Product Specifications, Policies and Procedures specific to the cross functional business teams and individual plants.

·         Provide technical support to the Operations, Co-Pack, Marketing, PPIC, Logistics, and Research & Development groups.

·         Serve as a lead investigator as part of the Crisis Management Program.

·         Develop and implement Quality Plans at manufacturing site(s) assigned.

·         Lead continuous improvement through auditing and follow-up, including Root Cause Investigation and Corrective Action planning.

·         Provide auditing support for Quality System Audits at various Big Heart Pet Brand facilities across all Business Units.

·         Assist in the approval of new vendors at each facility to ensure that their materials (e.g. ingredients, pouches, etc) may be used in Big Heart Pet Brand products.

·         Review and track vendor performance specific to individual facilities to ensure that their materials (e.g. ingredients, pouches, etc) continue to meet or exceed Big Heart Pet Brand specifications and expectations.

·         Lead cross-functional commissioning teams for both new product lines and equipment.

·         Troubleshoot problems identified by the plant through consumer feedback or internal customers.

·         Review and provide plant guidance on consumer complaint reduction.

·         Work with Marketing and Research & Development to develop and establish finished product standards.

·         Conduct product cuttings as necessary to assess compliance to standards.

·         Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators(KPIs)


·         Bachelor of Science degree is required. Preferred majors include: Food Science, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, or related field.




·         Minimum 5 years of Research/Quality food industry experience is required



·         Solid working knowledge of quality assurance and  food manufacturing

·         Strong ability to work in cross-functional & team-oriented environment with multiple disciplines

·         Proven capabilities in the area of project management

·         Self starter; take charge, positive & proactive attitude

·         Ability to lead several projects altogether and simultaneously

·         Detail & process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities

·         Ability to communicate effectively within the organization at all levels and externally

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Strong computer skills

·         Position will require 25-50% travel
