 Position Purpose

1. To develop and manage comprehensive manufacturing and customer specifications.
2. To establish and maintain objective product test methods that enable plants to effectively determine quality of final products.
3. To continuously monitor and report status of product quality and to take action as required.  To aggressively investigate customer complaints relating to product quality and to assist with corrective and preventative action to customer satisfaction.
4. Collaborate with R&D on new product / process development projects and installations to provide process capability and food safety input.

 Important Dimensions

The position is responsible for ensuring that all production of cheese and whey at LFC and its co-packer plants complies with established specifications. This expectation applies to all ingredients, processing aids and packaging materials.  While production volumes are fairly predictable, production challenges, noncompliant vendor issues, customer complaints and requests for information fluctuate widely and often have very tight timelines.  This creates interruptions in work flow and changes in short term priorities often. 

 5 direct exempt employees
 20 average daily incoming calls regarding plant product issues, specification and customer inquiries
 Must be available to take calls off hours and weekends.

 Principal Accountabilities

20% 1. Ensure that manufacturing specifications are complete, accurate and current. 
 Ensure alignment of LFC process capability with manufacturing and customer specifications.  Negotiate mutually acceptable ranges and parameters with customers prior to specification acceptance and publication to SAP.    
20% 2. Ensure that product performance evaluations are valid simulations of customer end use, and QE personnel are trained on their use as well as the proper review of product.
 Work with R&D and/or Marketing & Sales to successfully transition new products and processes into manufacturing by ensuring that specifications are complete, manufacturing personnel are properly trained, supplied with training and functionality standards. 

20% 4. Monitor product quality to ensure compliance to LFC and customer expectations, providing trend information to management and taking action to correct emerging negative trends.  Through plant audits verify that sampling, testing for key specification attributes and customer procedures are compliant with expectations.

20% 5. Gain customer satisfaction by providing prompt resolution to complaints.  Verify effectiveness of CAPA.

20% 6. Manage and develop staff to better execute Department and LFC expectations and prepare for more responsible assignments.
