The Quality Control & Sanitation Manager oversees the quality
control over finished goods, production sanitation compliance, ensuring top
compliance standards with all Company, regulatory, FDA’s General
Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Statistical Process Control, and HACCP
Standard Operating Procedures.
Quality control is the
sum of all those controllable factors that ultimately influence positively
or negatively the quality of the finished product e.g. selection of raw
materials, processing methods, packaging, methods of storage distribution
etc. This involves positive factors like color, flavor, texture and
nutritive value as well as the negative characteristic such as freedom from
harmful micro-organisms and undesirable substances.
- The aim of quality control is
to achieve as good and as consistent a standard of quality in the
product being produced as is compatible with the market for which the
product is designed.
- Identifies and manages
controllable factors that either positively or negatively influence
the finished product.
- Minimize and work to
eliminate quality problems with thorough analysis of conditions to
ensure that objectives of quality control are met.
- Identify and implement a
Total Quality Management (TQM) systems and procedures.
- Implement process controls at
every level of production through finished goods storage.
- Inspect finished product to
ensure consistency and standards are met.
- Establish rejection standard
and reporting process.
- Use the results of monitoring
to adjust the process to maintain control. If control is lost, you
must deal with non-compliance products. Must fix or correct the cause

- Ensure compliance with all
quality programs, including GMP, Allergen Control and HACCP. Oversees
HACCP program and serve as HACCP Coordinator. Maintains Company’s
certification compliance (DV, Kosher, Organic, etc.)
- Evaluate and assist in
developing processes, specifications, and critical control points in
manufacturing, for ongoing quality control of all finished goods.
- Understand and interpret
- Define, implement and monitor
the systems required to ensure compliance (GMP’s, required
certifications, sanitation, and customer audit requirements).
- Monitor complaint type and
frequency to verify effectiveness of corrective actions, , to include
trending analysis of customer complaints
corrective/preventive and continuous improvement opportunities through
defined/document channels, and actively participate in developing,
implementing, and verifying corrective/improvement actions.
- Define, develop, implement
and monitor in-plant inspection points and frequency necessary to
achieve customer compliance.
- Develop, implement and
monitor process control points and improvements necessary for defect
- Communicate regularly about
customer issues and overall plant quality performance with management,
staff and plant personal.
- Establish, maintain and
provide nutritional, ingredient and specification information for
internal use as well as providing to customers upon their request.
- Lead quality defect analysis
and elimination efforts.
- Continuously evaluate
procedures for best practices, particularly in the areas of Safety,
Sanitation and efficiency.
- Act as the internal and
external audit management representative for any plant quality audits.
Report as required on the quality status of the plant to the plant
staff as it relates to yearly goals.
- Hold management review
sessions with the entire plant staff to review quality performance
corrective actions, and areas for improvement as required.
- Interact directly with
Production Manager and Maintenance Manager to ensure effective preventive
maintenance and a reduction of changeover times.
- Provide support to ensure
that the Sanitation requirements and standards are met.
- Ensure plant is maintained at
a high standard of housekeeping.
- Provide a safe working
environment for all employees to ensure a zero accident rate.
- Perform miscellaneous related
duties as assigned by Director, Production Operations.
- Directly responsible for the
over-all management of all sanitation for facility.
- Plant sanitation is a key
component of our Food Safety activities and the Quality Control &
Sanitation Manager is a key participant in our core Food Safety
- Food safety must be the
priority focus of our sanitation program.
- Actively monitor cleaning and
sanitation processes to insure effectiveness of methods and
- Insure effective training of
all sanitation staff; including the correct use of sanitation
equipment and procedures, at all times.
- Minimum of 4 - 7 years experience working in a food manufacturing
environment; knowledgeable and experienced in general food safety
programs and policies - includes government regulations, FDA, USDA,
SILLIKER, HACCP, GMP, BTA,SQF and Allergen Programs.
- BA/BS degree or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to organize,
supervise, and direct a diverse work force; excellent organizational
skills with a high degree of initiative, sense of urgency, and
flexibility; assertive when necessary; work with minimum supervision.
- Thorough understanding of
metal detection regulations.
- Computer literate (Microsoft
Works, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Read, write, and speak
English; ability to receive and provide clear instructions, Spanish a
- Preferred but not required -
experience in micro and sanitation, lab food testing, GFSI (Global
Food Safety Initiative), Kosher, functional in the use of a second
- Work in a production area
with fast moving equipment, moderate to high noise levels and
- Strong statistical process
control experience and knowledge.
- Strong math background.
- Ability to understand product
prints and written specifications.
- Excellent communication
skills, both verbal and written
