Flavorist (Beverage/Sweet)

We have partnered with a TOP F&F supply house that is looking to hire an experienced Flavorist to join their team in the Beverage/Sweet category.

Position Summary:

  • To develop BEVERAGE/SWEET flavors that satisfy customer needs by utilizing appropriate raw materials and following proper legislative codes for the ultimate purpose of increasing sales.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop commercially successful flavors as outlined by an approved technical project using approved ingredients. Work closely with internal food science groups to develop successful products.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of and the ability to use/apply basic chemicals in the successful development of flavors.
  • Work with customers while supporting sales and marketing to ensure the successful development of new flavor business.
  • Work on internal development projects to support subsidiaries while providing an understanding of international taste profiles.
  • Function as an internal resource in the use of basic raw materials and provide an understanding of material functionality.
  • Oversee first-time production-made flavors while resolving and troubleshooting any technical issues.
  • Maintain contact with R&D personnel/subsidiaries worldwide in order to keep appraised of new technology and developments within the flavor group.

Other Functions:

Help establish correct titles for newly developed flavors consistent with local regulations and requirements.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • A strong technical background is required with a minimum of a B.S. degree.
  • Flavor development/formulation experience with knowledge of U.S. and international flavor regulations is required for success.

The Flavorist must be able to resolve technical problems related to flavor/systems development. In addition, the Flavorist must be able to provide solutions to cost reduction initiatives without compromising the quality of the flavor or its existing business. The Flavorist must be able to address technical flavor issues related to finished products.

Skills & Abilities:

Good communication, interpersonal skills, and computer literacy are required. A basic knowledge of flavor production, product applications, market trends, sales function/role, understanding of laboratory equipment, and a broad customer base are also factors for success.

  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Strong sensory knowledge
  • Must be willing and able to taste and smell flavors.
