What is my job: 

The Bakeshop QA Coordinator will effectively lead the Quality Assurance team within the Bakeshop to ensure a safe and quality product for our customers.  You will be responsible for reacting to and preventing a variety of food safety and quality incidents.  You will also assist in the developing, executing, and continuously improving food safety and quality systems throughout the Bakeshop operation.


How do I make a difference? 

Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients

·         Supervise the Bakeshop QA Technicians in a 24x7 operation, and ensure all products and ingredients meet or exceed FSMA requirements, SQF Standards, and Wegmans high standards to maintain ongoing compliance

·         Assist with SQF Food Safety Plan development, implementation and maintenance, with guidance from the QA Manager

·         Execute food safety verification and validation programs

·         Perform investigations to root cause identification and work with departments on preventative actions of Bakeshop product non-conformances 


Providing Incredible, Knowledge Based Service

·         Train Quality Assurance and Bakeshop operations personnel on quality and food safety initiatives; act as a role model for others

·         Communicate directly with Stores, Consumer Affairs, and Bakeshop Operations timely and appropriately

·         Manage Bakeshop related product complaints and concerns from stores and customers


Continuously Improving Results

·         Perform tasks essential to the proper functioning of the department including scheduling and managing payroll

·         Share area results with employees being sure to recognize both individual and team achievements

·         Audit required HACCP paperwork, SQF processes, and other quality or food safety related documentation to comply with regulations. 

·         Actively participate in the Corrective and Preventative Action process

·         Perform food safety and SQF training completion for all Bakeshop

·         Delegate a recommended course of action and alert Management of any immediate concerns

·         Coordinate quality assurance testing and inspection on Wegmans Bakeshop products, raw materials, equipment and processes; including physical, chemical and sensory tests in production and laboratory environments

·         Oversee the verification, maintenance, and calibration of analytical testing equipment; work with vendors to address equipment concerns.

·         Participate in cross functional teams including: Bakeshop initiatives, new item development, SQF teams, etc.

·         Identify and communicate opportunities to eliminate re-work, waste (product and packaging materials), contamination, potential hazards etc., and communicates thoughts with the leadership team.  Utilizes employee input for continuous improvement

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

·         2 or more years’ experience at the Senior Technician level

·         Demonstrated passion for Quality or Food Safety

·          Bachelor’s Degree in a science related field or equivalent experience

·         Possess strong listening skills and hear many points of view without bias, asking clarifying questions to check for understanding

·         Use available resources to pursue goals and challenges with the intent of achieving results, striving for continued excellence and taking appropriate risks (Managing the 5 Measures)

·         Effectively deal with ambiguity, handling risk and uncertainty with comfort, maintaining effectiveness in the face of change and acting on decisions without having the total picture

What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart?

·         Food manufacturing experience

·         2 or more years of Quality Assurance experience

·         Experience participating on cross functional teams

·         Project coordination experience

·         HACCP Certified

·         Quality Management Systems experience (SQF, ISO, GFSI)

·         Use critical thinking to solve complex and difficult problems with effective solutions skillfully questioning multiple sources for answers, seeing the underlying and hidden problems and patterns beyond obvious symptoms to address root causes

·         Experience with project coordination communicating goals and responsibilities to the team being sure to monitor performance against a project plan and effectively applying project controls. Include project stakeholders, team members, and subject matter experts in order to get things done

·         Experience with risk evaluation: proactively identifying areas of potential risk exposure, thoroughly analyzing the situation to ensure the financial investment of a solution makes sense and implementing cost-effective controls to mitigate risk

Work environment: 

·         Will work in food production areas around various equipment and with a diverse work force

·         Work will be performed in a food manufacturing setting, with temperatures ranging from -10 to 100 degrees

·         Will work in rooms with hot, humid, and cold conditions; individuals must be able to move comfortably from one environment to the next

·         Typical movements include repetitive arm and hand motions, bending, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching and twisting.

·         Will spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours

·         May be exposed to various allergens

·         Required to follow Good Manufacturing Practices, including no jewelry in the workplace

·         Required to wear company issued uniforms, jackets, and footwear as well as a hair net, safety glasses, and gloves

·         Position requires lifting up to 50 lbs

·         Shift start times will vary
