JOB SUMMARY              Salary Range:  $100,000-$150,000/year

(Located in San Antonio, TX)


Responsible for all operational aspects of the Chemistry Laboratory business including planning, operations, staff management, and financial results.  The function of this position is to oversee and direct the staff dedicated to Chemistry testing within FSNS.  This position is responsible for application and evaluation of approved chemistry techniques and methodologies used in analysis of food products as they relate to accreditation, certification, proficiency testing, and client maintenance.  This position will have frequent contact with the laboratory client base as well as review of new work, new staffing structures, new technical approaches, and work distribution between laboratories.


         Oversee food laboratory operations.

         Direct management in handling people, resources, and work flows.

         Meet or exceed revenue and operating margin goals developed by the company.

         Ensure customer satisfaction.

         Client interactions to determine best approaches and work distribution.

         Vendor interactions to determine efficiencies, equipment needs and cutting edge supply approaches.

         Establish a clear understanding of local customer needs and competitive activities/offerings for food laboratory services.

         Ensure up to date Quality and Operational Manuals.

         Determine services to be offered with method, pricing, requirements, and turn-around-time.

         Ensure Laboratories follow directed FSNS Safety Programs.

         Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements including documentation and records maintenance.

         Provide guidance to laboratory management in inventory and equipment maintenance.

         Ensure proper supervision of all personnel including selection, performance management, development, and compensation.

         Manage customer relations and satisfaction in concert with customer support, consulting team, and sales.

         Financial planning, manage to expense budgets, and meet quarterly revenue and operating margin targets.

         Assist in sales and marketing of Chemistry Services.

         Maintain laboratory condition including equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all procedures.

         Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner.

         Share information in an open and timely manner.

         Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area.

         Responsible for the completion of required training.


         Five years industrial food safety and quality assurance.

         Master of Science in Chemistry or related field in Chemistry.

         Ph.D. degree in Chemistry preferred.

         Two years of management experience required; commercial lab preferred.

         Training in laboratory audits, A2LA-ISO regulations and guidelines and related quality assurance experience.

         Business knowledge as it relates to budgeting, labor analysis, and gross profit.

         Advanced studies in food science and/or microbiological analysis preferred.

         Applied food analysis experience with multiple food types and multiple laboratories preferred.

         International food processing and retail experience preferred.

         Or equivalent combination and experience.
