Position Title: Senior Food Technologist, Dry Dinners
Location: Medina, New York or Brooklyn Park, Minnesota
Reports To (title): Senior R&D Manager
The Senior Food Technologist, Dry Dinners, manages the
design/plan/validation and implementation of new products, line extensions,
product improvement and technical service for Bay Valley Foods that meet
customer product offering requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manage product development
projects to include: formulation development, bench top testing,
sensory evaluation, obtaining and evaluating new raw materials
(ingredients) as applicable, documenting all testing undertaken within
the project and the results (both internal and customer
- Performs complex technical assignments
with high value to the company under general direction (overall
- Develop information for and
issue product specifications, ingredient specifications, in-process
control points and testing requirements.
- Exhibits a strong understanding
of existing systems, business functions and new technologies.
- Lead technical expertise on
cross-functional project teams and technical oversight of internal and
external manufacturing start-ups and ongoing technical service.
- Demonstrates ability to
influence project direction by providing technical input to the
planning and decision making process.
- Functions as Technical Leader
for technical focused projects, providing direction and monitoring
various associates, support groups or contractors as project dictates.
- Independently determines and
develops technical approach to solutions on product development teams.
- Identifies and resolves
technical conflicts, including resources, to ensure projects meet
- Conduct all activities in
compliance with established safety standards and Good Manufacturing

- Ability to work in a fast
paced, task oriented cross functional team environment.
- Strong formulation capability
– lab & pilot plant. Experience in technology development
including scale-up to pilot / commercial scale.
- Hands-on formulation
experience; understanding of ingredient interactions / functionality.
- Experience interfacing with a
- Solid project management
skills. Good communication skills – written and spoken. Strong
competency in Dry Blend Product Development and work related
- Must be a self-starter,
independent worker, energetic and resourceful.
- Excellent written and verbal
- Ability to mentor and coach
less senior associates
- Ability to represent function
in a team environment
- Ability to interact and
collaborate with cross-functional groups: Marketing, Market Research,
Procurement, Plant Management, Engineering, Vendors, Consultants, etc.
- Ability to work independently
with minimal supervision in technical disciplines
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Genesis and SAP
Bachelor’s Degree Required
Minimum Experience Preferred (Number of years and
Bachelor’s degree required and 5-7 years’ experience or a Master’s Degree
required and 3-5 years’ experience.
25% - 50% travel
