Product Quality Manager (Food Scientist) - Albert Uster Imports

AUI, a premium fine foods importer and distributor, is seeking a Product Quality Manager/Food Scientist to join their team.  This position is responsible for managing AUI’s Total Quality Management system. The quality Manager leads the development, and delivery of food safety, quality assurance, and customer complaint investigation/resolution processes and services within all product lines offered by AUI to its customers, during all hours of operation.  Also, the Product Quality Manager collaborates and closely communicates with Marketing and Culinary staff, Product Innovation, Customer Service, and end customers to ensure that quality control processes and results meet internal and external standards and are well understood. Additionally, the Product Quality Manager fosters a high degree of customer loyalty through proactive pursuit and maintenance of the highest quality, and the communication of appropriate solutions to problems that may arise. 


Essential Job Functions:

·Holds primary accountability for achievement of successful standards in the Food Safety and Hygiene/GDP audits for all AUI’s warehouses (includes management of SOPs for receiving, storage, packaging and delivery of finished goods to customers, pest control practices, sanitation, etc.)

·Conducts training for warehouse personnel in food safety and GDP practices.

·Performs sensory analysis for all incoming product to ensure quality standards are met. Communicates any discrepancy or product underperformance to Innovations and Culinary staff. In addition, the Quality Manager demonstrates a strong ability to communicate with international suppliers in diverse environments to address product related discrepancies maintaining a professional relationship at all times

·Conducts shelf life testing on a monthly basis including microbiological testing and interpretation (APC, Coliforms, Yeast/Mold, pathogens, etc.)

·Handles Customer Complaints with suppliers and assists Customer Service preserving customer relationships

·Assists marketing with relevant information for the creation of product specification sheets, product attributes, product issues, etc.

Excellent customer management and prioritization skills. 



·         B.S. or higher in Food Science or related field required in addition to extensive knowledge in Food Safety and Product Quality Management.

·         Minimum of 8 years of experience. Preferable, working with Quality Assurance programs in an international wholesale distribution environment.

·         Must be comfortable supervising others.

·         Licenses/ Certifications:   HACCP required.

·         Knowledge of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulations is preferred
