Culinary Scientist/R&D Chef







Summary: The Culinary Scientist/R&D Chef is responsible for culinary-centric product innovations, renovations and menu adaptations that a) drive incremental revenue through improved product appeal or new sales, b) deliver cost savings, and c) ensure compliance to nutritional regulations and our food values for our K-12 business. This responsibility includes creating and executing bench-top and scale-up recipes and meals as well as supporting Revolution Foods’ kid-testing initiatives. The Culinary Scientist/R&D Chef will have a balance of culinary creativity with real-world conditions and an entrepreneurial mindset. This position is based in our Oakland, CA office.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Responsible for recipe and meal creation using menu strategy inputs, food trends and use of nutritional development software applications that also meets Revolution Foods ingredient standards and budgets.
• Runs K-12 culinary action items on all innovation and renovation projects.
• Validates recipes and meals in support of commercialization and optimization projects.
• Coordinates product cuttings for the department.
• Prepares documentation for cost, nutrition and commercialization review prior to meal launch.
• Product support of meal testing in schools.


• Culinary Degree (min. 8 month certificate) and/or BS in Food Science or related field.
• Min 3-5 years minimum working in a fresh foods R&D environment and/or experience commercializing recipes for manufacturing environment.
• Excellent knife skills, demonstrated familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment and HACCP food safety standards.
• Serve Safe certification is a plus.
• Demonstrated Project Management experience a plus.
• An unrelenting attention to detail.
• Able to multitask, troubleshoot, and work within an environment with ever-changing priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills via email, in person and on the phone, both in one on one and team situations.
• A self-starter who is able to work independently with little direction, and who’s confident enough to ask when clarification is needed.
• Able to lift 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time, as needed.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
