Job Summary:

This position will lead in the development of new products to meet company's and/or customers' specifications based upon availability of resources including ingredients, production equipment and other supplies. The Lab and Culinary Support Technician will also be a key integrator of newly developed products into manufacturing ensuring compliance with quality and manufacturing specifications and standards. At times, this position will also be expected to lead in formulating, directing, and coordinating a variety of research and development projects while making recommendations for the improvement and cost reduction of existing products and processes.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Oversee programs, personnel, and processes of Research & Development
  • Creation, setup, and follow thru of in-house and external product presentations & visits
  • Maintain & communicate project status via CRM and/or other designated channels
  • Maintain schedule for new product deadlines and launches.
  • Oversee the nutritional analysis of new items, revisions and outside business.
  • Create new products and processes
  • Assist Purchasing Department with procurement of new and replacement ingredients.
  • Research and recommend packaging options for new finished products.
  • Assist quality assurance in shelf testing and analyzing products
  • Oversee and maintain confidentiality agreements with PL Customers.
  • Assist in Continuous Improvement practices with packaging and manufacturing of products
  • Determine necessary raw materials, packaging materials, equipment and production processes of new product formulation
  • Develop recipes, production product control sheets and production method procedures for approval of new product formulations
  • Keep up to date on market trends and new business opportunities

Required Knowledge, Skills and Education:

  • Bachelorís Degree in Food Science or Certification from Culinary Institute preferred
  • Experience in food industry is required
  • At least 2 years of R & D or Laboratory experience required
  • Strong leadership and decision making skills
  • Must possess critical thinking and innovative skills
  • Proven punctuality and attendance
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, responsibility and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of Genesis SQL nutritional software a plus
  • Possess good understanding of GMP's, HACCP and food ingredient/nutritional labeling
