The Food Safety Systems Manager is responsible for the development and maintenance of all Food Safety Programs at Clemens Food Group. This individual will work to ensure programs are bench marked against the latest regulatory and customer requirements as well as industry best practices.

Food Safety Program Maintenance ( Priority 1, 25% of Time )
- Ownership of food safety programs (HACCP, SSOP, Pre-requisite programs, HIMP)
- Validation and verification of sanitation practices (cleaning techniques, extended runs, sanitizing practices, etc.)
- Evaluate ongoing performance of 3rd party sanitation group.
- Maintain outsource program for CFG (copacker, seasoning, packaging)
- Ensure a system is in place that supports compliance with USDA and customer animal handling requirements.
- Lead CFG person for comprehensive food safety assessment
- Conduct and perform mock recalls 4 x per year.
- Facilitate all customer audits relating to food safety and quality (SQF and non-SQF).
- Co-facilitate annual animal handling audit.
- Lead foreign material, food security and food safety task force.

Program Research & Development (Priority 2, 35% of time)
- Develop and implement new sanitation practices (cleaning techniques, extended runs, sanitizing practices, etc.)
- Participate in activities to enhance product formulations from a food safety standpoint.
- Research and understanding all USDA regulatory requirement
- Develop and implement new food safety programs as a result of new USDA regulatory requirements
- Research and understanding all customer regulatory requirement
- Develop and implement new food safety programs as a result of new customer regulatory requirement
- Lead team to analyze production processes to ensure compliance with USDA and customer requirements.
- Seek and implement best practices within food safety.
- Develop voluntary regulatory programs in support of sales (NE3, ractopamine, CN, process verified)
- Continuously improve outsource program for CFG (copacker, seasoning, packaging)
- Participate on AMI inspection committee.
- Attend annual customer conferences related to Food Safety.
- Recommend and implement areas of improvements from committees / conferences.
- Lead food safety portion of CAT2 system implementation.
- Solicit feedback from Food Safety execution team regarding potential program enhancements.
- Solicit feedback from sales team regarding changes in customer requirements.
- Develop 'velcro' points with food safety contacts at key customers.
- Develop awareness of food safety related industry events and selectively attend.
- In conjunction with Director, establish over-arching food safety policies (i.e., ALT2 status) for company.

Change Management (Priority 3, 20% of time)
- Review and sign off all PIR from a food safety standpoint.
- Ensure programs are updated for changes initiated through the PIR process.
- Evaluate proposed and actual changes related to facility and process that impact food safety.
- Communicate and build consensus with all stakeholders regarding program changes.

Talent Management (Priority 4, 10% of time)
- Provide direction and feedback to direct report on food safety program changes.
- Perform reviews and provide mentoring to FS Systems coordinator.
- Provide direction on food safety data trend analysis to FS Systems coordinator.

Team CFG (Priority 5, 10% of time)
- Attend Level 10 Technical meetings.
- Attend FSQA meetings.
- Participate in CFG Leadership classes.
- Attend weekly PIR meeting.
- Attend weekly USDA meeting.
- Attend weekly sanitation meeting.
- Attend weekly maintenance meeting.
- Attend monthly animal handling meeting.
- Periodically participate in Operations Supervisor meeting.

Requirements

Position Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required
Minimum 4 years experience in QA, Food Safety, Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management, or Business Administration
USDA or FDA experience preferred
Ability and willingness to recognize and respond to new concepts
Excellent written/verbal communication/presentation skills
Multi-task oriented and a team player
Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment where change and growth are part of the culture
Strong MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills (proficiency in MS Access a plus)
Ability to travel from time to time
Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail
Lead through example (some people management experience preferred)
Must possess a Quality Attitude
