The Food Safety Manager serves as the technical expert to My Fit Foods manufacturing facilities concerning all food safety issues. This individual will support Safety & Risk Control to identify the current state of food safety and develop and execute MFF policies, programs and standards on a system-wide basis to reduce risk. The Food Safety Manager is responsible for leading the development of strategic and tactical plans to drive continuous improvement and minimize exposure in the area of compliance as it relates to food safety, and will also manage the third party food safety audit program including scheduling, coordination, invoicing, data analysis, trending and recommendations for continuous improvement.


§  Support the development of MFF food safety standards, procedures, enabling tools and training programs.

§  Present to leadership and executives on status of food safety compliance and recommendations for improvement.

§  Support and participate in field-based food safety compliance assessments to determine adequacy of existing programs, procedures, tools, etc.

§  Assist Line of Business (LOB) in identifying exposures associated with Department of Health regulations.

§  Provide field technical support when required and assist Line of Business with any alleged complaints, health inspections, violations, citations.

§  Serve as department expert and support MFF crisis management team where necessary in conducting root cause investigation of any food safety exposure that results in catastrophic loss to the organization.

§  Assess training needs, and develop and implement programs to train personnel in food safety principles and practices.

§  Develop, modify and facilitate the implementation of prevention-based food safety programs to ensure protection of the consumer, customer and brand.

§  Facilitate compliance of food safety management systems and certification audits for existing and future markets.

§  Guide organization on requirements for federal, state, and local regulations. Study existing and anticipate new regulations, develop proactive management systems to effectively comply, enforce adherence to requirements and advise management on needed actions.


Knowledge, skills & abilities:

§  Knowledge of Food Safety Management Systems, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), including Pre-Requisite programs, and Good Agricultural Practices.

§  Experience with management of potential food safety incidents, regulatory contacts, and risk assessments.

§  Demonstrated knowledge of utilizing statistical tools for problem solving, data analysis, and decision making.

§  Experience implementing and supporting Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards.

§  Demonstrated ability to develop people, teams, and oneself through innovative means.

§  Ability to prioritize duties in a changing environment and still meet business objectives.

§  Ability to communicate well in both written and verbal form, in both small team and large public venues.

§  Effective presentation and public speaking skills.

§  Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

§  Ability to develop and adhere to department budget.

Minimum experience:

§  Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Science or other food related field; MS preferred

§  5-10 years’ professional experience in food safety required, preferably in a USDA production environment.

§  Experience in management systems or certified food safety professional designation desirable.

§  Food Handlers and Serve Safe Certification required.

§  Experience must include managing a staff of professionals through major organizational change initiatives and driving results through use of internal and third party resources.

§  Diverse background in addressing all types of food safety exposures and a proven track record of developing and implementing sound food safety management programs.

§  A strong understanding of food safety best practices (i.e., HAACP), as well as Department of Health and local food safety regulations.

§  Knowledgeable of ISO 22000 principles to serve global clients is desirable.

§  Working knowledge of quality assurance programs (Six Sigma, ISO etc) is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

§  Ability to work in kitchen and move around store and kitchen environment; communicate with team members, customers and the public.

§  Ability to access and operate My Fit Foods computer system to prepare documents, enter data and read reports from a computer database or email system.

§  25% travel required.

§  Extended workdays and weekend work are a frequent occurrence as needed to support the business.
