Summary: Supports the Westmont IL R&D laboratory operations utilizing bench and administrative support skills.

Creates prototypes and performs analytical tests to support product formulation efforts.

Maintains the Westmont R&D lab and pilot plan in a clean and sanitary manner.Purchases laboratory supplies and assists with recordkeeping.

 

Follows detailed instructions to create prototypes as assigned; observes raw material interactions and notes all observations.

Conducts analytical testing of all prototypes, competitor products and samples using a variety of laboratory equipment to accumulate data for

analysis and shelf life studies when required. Sets up, adjusts, operates, calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments such

as a microscope, refractometer, titrator, pH meter, viscometer, and other equipment.

 

Supports cost reduction, ingredient substitution, and research project initiatives. Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment in the

laboratory and pilot plant based on a designed set schedule, including laboratory refrigerators, freezer and storage areas.Maintains good

housekeeping.Keeps the lab well organized and free of clutter. Ensures an adequate supply of raw materials, dry goods, packing materials

and containers are available. Assists QA and Production in the resolution of issues/problems. Assists Food Technologists in Plant trials,

new production runs, and product trial revisions as needed. Collaborates with Manufacturing and QA with product maintenance activities as

required. Provides recommendations to improve processes and methodologies. Manages assigned projects and supports cross-functional teams

to the successful completion of those projects. Bachelorís Degree in Food Science or related discipline desired.Prefer 6 months of food

processing experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
