Kent Precision Foods Group, Inc. has an opening for a Food Scientist in the Bolingbrook, IL location. This is a salaried position with a complete benefits package reporting to the Director of Research and Development.

Job Summary:
The Food Scientist will be involved in numerous aspects of Research & Development within all of the producing facilities. The primary function will be product development as directed by the company. Product development will come from regional sales, national account managers, marketing managers, industrial or international sales managers or from within the Tech Services department. The position will include management of products from inception, through the regulatory and quality functions, and finally through operations.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Implementation of effective manufacturing of food safe products
  • Interact with the QC and QA teams as well as Regulatory and Operations
  • Manage technical project requests from product creation through manufacturing with minimal assistance:
  • Meet all necessary criteria of project including cost guidelines, nutrition requirements, packaging requirements, shelf life requirements, visual/flavor/texture requirements, outside testing, customer and marketing interaction
  • As needed, accurately make samples for customerís evaluation and send with all required information (letter, label, etc.)
  • Manage, maintain and update all information related to project work (i.e. project file, R&D Brokernet, R&D Marcam System, various R&D spreadsheets related to product, etc.)
  • Enter nutrition information into Genesis system
  • Coordinate and lead first batch meetings on customer approved products that are ordered
  • Research new ingredients and contact ingredient suppliers for information and samples
  • Travel to customers, attend trade shows, industry and customer events, company meetings, etc. as needed
  • Participate and lead project design and methodology, problem solving though application and knowledge
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers, manufacturing, operations, quality, procurement and regulatory
  • Interact with Quality and Regulatory on compliance and plant QA quality issues
  • Actively participate in innovation process and bring new ideas on products across the company portfolio
  • Observe, record and evaluate experimental data and prepare project reports
  • Stay current with new technologies, industry trends and regulations. Recognize and incorporate advances in technology into company procedures.
  • Follow all plant GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) procedures
  • Develop mastery of customerís products and processes and develop a positive working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Demonstrate significant innovation and improvement in product development and processes
  • Identify root cause of problems and implement corrective action

Education, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelorís degree in Food Science or related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience developing food productsExcellent management and leadership skills with proven ability to coach others to success
  • Strong communication skills: written, verbal, listening and presentation
  • Strategic thinker, with established problem solving ability
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with ability to work in team environment and independently in a flexible work environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Self-motivated, confident, energetic, and creative
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to multi-task
  • Excellent organization and project management skills with proven ability to work with deadlines
  • Assertive, tactful, patient and courteous under pressure
  • Must be comfortable working across all levels of management
  • Excellent PC skills are required, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and math skills

Working Conditions:

  • Duties of this job may require the employee to stand, walk or sit (in office environment) and occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or bend and/or lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to travel 15-20% of the time as business needs requires it
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate orally in English
