Ever Fresh Fruit Co. is an established family owned food manufacturing facility located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We produce specialty products for the dairy and bakery industries. Our product line includes yogurt fruit preps, ice cream variegates, bases and fruit feeders, bakery fillings, fresh apples and IQF apples. We produce organic, natural and conventional products. We are growing rapidly and seeking an experienced QA Manager to join our team.

Job Overview / Description

Plans, coordinates, directs and manages quality control program to ensure continuous plant management consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. Directly responsible for monitoring and verifying the quality of the manufacturing process from incoming to finished product shipment, ensuring formulations and quality standards are adhered to, adequate sanitation standards are maintained at all times and packaging requirements match industry standards. The QA Manager is responsible for day to day staffing of the Quality Assurance and Sanitation departments in the plant. The QA Manager has the responsibility to take immediate action to protect food safety and food quality. The QA Manager has the responsibility to report noncompliance with food safety requirements, food quality and consistency requirements, regulatory requirements, customer requirements and all internal policies and procedures to the executive management team if they are not being satisfactorily addressed at the plant level. Responsibilities

  • Verifies the implementation, maintenance and function of the food safety and quality processes including HACCP, SQF System, GMPs, SOPs, prerequisite programs and all customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares and leads the facility in preparation for internal and external audits including: 3rd Party (SQF), GMP, HACCP, FDA/ODA Vulnerability Assessments, Customer audits, Organic inspections and Kosher inspections. Accompanies inspector, completes necessary reports and posing, performs follow-ups to non-conformances found and provides responses as appropriate.
  • Provides Quality/Sanitation support for project commercialization. Ensure appropriate steps, forms and approvals are complete to assure successful project startup.
  • Train site on proper inspections procedures and practices. Assist in ensuring facility is inspection ready at all times.
  • Educates plant management on all internal and external policies such as HACCP; FDA, internal policies and procedures and regulatory or special customer requirements. Verifies compliance and reports non-compliance.
  • Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy for finished products.
  • Formulates and maintains quality control objectives complementary to company policies and goals.
  • Identifies and communicates areas of risk for the company in food safety, quality or compliance, protecting product safety and consistency at all times.
  • Works with plant management to achieve plant efficiency and quality objectives.
  • Assists with customer visits including product cuttings and plant tours.
  • Ensures all customer and regulatory requirements are met including labeling, net weights and all other regulatory requirements.
  • Interprets quality control philosophy to key personnel in organization.
  • Coordinates objectives with plant procedures in cooperation with other plant managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
  • Provides inspection activity for product throughout production cycle.
  • Manages all aspects of the QA Department including directing activities, QA employee training and competencies, testing programs for compliance, product specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Enforces or establishes standards for incoming raw materials.
  • Advise CEO of challenges and progress through regular and routine reports.
  • Investigates in conjunction with plant management and formulates response to all complaints regarding quality.

Authority

  • Has joint authority with Plant Manager to shut a line down
  • Has authority to take product off hold
  • Has authority to place product on hold if any standard is not met

Management

  • Familiar with, follow and enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Schedule and conduct supervisorís and Technicians annual reviews in a timely manner.
  • Administer disciplinary action as required up to and including termination.
  • Manage projects, meeting timelines to produce required results.
  • Clearly defines short and long term goals to QA team.
  • In the absence of the QA Manager, their responsibilities will be filled by a QA Supervisor or designated individual(s).

Working Relationships

  • The primary working relationship should be between the QA Manager and the Plant Manager.
  • The QA Manager may have secondary working relationships with other managers, supervisors, purchasing, PD, shipping and other departments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorís Degree from a four-year college or university; concentration in Food Science, Microbiology or related studies or equivalent experience preferred. All degrees considered.
  • 5-7 years of experience as a Quality Control Manager in a food or associated business preferred.
  • Expertise in HACCP, SQF, Sanitation, Food Safety and Food Defense.
  • Experience with a highly regulated/controlled environment, including those governed by USDA and the FDA preferred.
  • Proficient using computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage aggressive timelines with expected results.
  • Effective and proved problem solving skills.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees and other organizations.
  • Strong team leadership and team building skills.
  • Outstanding analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours or multiple shifts on occasion.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish both oral and written are preferred, but not required.
