Product Development Food Scientist

One of our top clients in the food industry is currently seeking a Product Development Food Scientist in Austin, MN. Our client is a Fortune 500 multinational corporation with a great portfolio of food products. This is a direct hire position with competitive base salary and great benefits. As a Product Development Food Scientist you will manage multiple projects of various degrees of difficulty, and will contribute to portions of more complex or technical projects as part of a larger team. You will be responsible for planning and conducting tests, analyzing and evaluating the data, and formulating conclusions to accomplish company goals and objectives. You will also be a resource for scientific knowledge and on occasion, serve as a technical consultant to others within the corporation and subsidiaries.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts research to develop or modify product formulations and processes.
  • Investigates, recommends, and evaluates changes to improve plant and production operations by developing new, or modifying existing processes.
  • Investigates new technologies by designing and conducting tests, evaluating and documenting the results, and formalizing conclusions in written and presentation formats.
  • Manages multiple projects of various degrees of difficulty that include input and direction from a number of marketing and operations managers.
  • Communicates effectively with Company and supplier employees at all levels using verbal, oral and written skills to accurately define requirements, interpret project goals into actionable tasks, coordinate tests at various locations with production and management personnel, document results, and present recommendations for implementing new or modified product formulas or processes.
  • Fulfills the role of technical service and scientific adviser for assisting production personnel in solving problems or providing advice when dealing with specific questions or challenges on an as-needed basis.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelorís or Masterís degree in Food Science, Meat Science, or related field (additional culinary is a plus)
  • 1+ years related experience in the food industry
  • Research and/or work experience in the area of fresh meats or value added meats
  • Preferred experience with refrigerated foods product development, HACCP knowledge and experience with food processing equipment (blenders, stuffers, extrusion equipment, etc.)
  • Proven problem solving, decision-making, and project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 10-20% of the time.
