Primary Job Description
The primary function of the Associate Scientist is to design and drive product development innovation. This will be accomplished by utilizing multiple scientific techniques and knowledge of various cross functional disciplines which will result in the formulation of successful commercial nutritional matrices that meet designed specifications. This position will support commercial line manufacturing and trouble shooting for formulation/process challenges specific to product production. Aptitude for Food Science would be beneficial.
Core Job Responsibilities
The core function for an Associate Scientist is to assist in the design/executing of experiments, and to report results. Responsibilities include: procurement of ingredients, obtain ingredient documentation, review ingredient specifications, adjust batch formulations to meet expected label outcomes, weigh ingredients, formulate the product at the bench, make critical observations during the experiment, document the observations and communicate results. The individual will also prepare documentation for scale up to a pilot/commercial scale and support these production runs. The individual will contribute to product and process design, project planning, definition of critical success criteria and manufacturing procedures. The individual needs to be self-motivating and direct their own daily activities utilizing multiple experimental techniques and procedures. The individual will be asked to be innovative during the development stage of a project. Any type of cooking/culinary food processing experience, product design and/or creative activities will be beneficial.
BS in Food Science/Nutrition or Food Engineering or related field with a minimum of 2 years of practical experience preferred.
MS in Food Science / Nutrition / Food Engineering or in related field.
This individual needs to effectively communicate technical development results to cross functional teams while keeping leadership informed of latest project updates. This individual needs to have a positive attitude and work well within teams. He/She will need to apply basic computer skills, word processing, spreadsheets, formulation databases and other applicable systems.
Significant Work Activities and Conditions
Operating and cleaning bench top/pilot plant equipment which will require occasionally lifting up to 50lb bags and being on their feet 80% of the day.
This individual will have responsibility in keeping a laboratory in a clean and safe state.
Significant Work Activities and Conditions Lift, carry, push or pull weights of more than 20 pounds/9 kilos on a regular/daily basis
