Food Safety & Quality Manager - Co Mans & Suppliers - Chicago, IL





Position Summary


Manage the implementation and compliance of Tyson food safety and quality expectations for our co-manufactures and/or suppliers. Work with the facilities and internal partners such as R&D and Procurement to manage the food safety and quality expectations for suppliers through the approval process and ongoing approval conformance. Identify areas for improvement at the co-manufacturers and/or suppliers and work with the team to develop and communicate long term and sustainable corrective actions for them. Person must have the ability to manage multiple complex challenges on a day-to-day basis. Position will require up to 50% travel. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Manage the effective implementation of food safety and quality programs for our co-manufacturers and suppliers .
Engage in and support cross-functional team efforts in the commercialization of new products by participating in meetings, documentation of facility capabilities, identification of quality concerns, communication of potential consumer complaints, participation in plant trials or start-ups, organization of specification review and compliance checks.
Assist in the development and implementation of supplier management tools necessary to manage the incoming documentation and regulatory requirments.
Conduct food safety and quality audits/reviews of co-manufacturers and suppliers and verify appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
Lead teams focused on investigation and improvement of quality issues such as consumer complaints, specification deviations, or processing challenges.
Develop and manage food safety and quality auditing systems using internal audits and review of third party audits and GFSI certifications.
Support and manage product qualification needs across multiple facilities and production lines.
Develop formats for effective communication on co-manufacturing and supplier quality metrics and progress.


Bachelor Science Degree in food science or related field preferred.
Minimum of three to five years experience in food safety and quality in a food manufacturing environment
Minimum of one year experience working with food safety & quality programs for supply management preferred
Thorough understanding of food safety principles and food processing
HACCP Certification required.
SQFand/or BRC training required
Food Safety and Sanitation auditing experience preferred
