Job Description

Position Summary: Under direct supervision, researches, conducts experiments, gathers data, develops preliminary findings and prepares written reports for the development of new products beginning at conception through successful commercialization.  Follows established protocols and work plans and drafts for review technical proposals and reports.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and develop new products prototypes
  • Collaborate with the RI team to formulate new products to match the ingredient statement, nutritional profile and product attributes of the target product. Develop and document the process for the manufacture of the new product

         Assist in identification and approval of potential new ingredient and manufacturing suppliers

  • Conduct plant trials and new product start-ups following the site test protocol
  • Plan, prioritize and complete tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Complete project objectives under the direction of supervisor
  • Maintain accurate and complete records in research notebooks and databases
  • Work with pilot plant equipment under supervision
  • Learn and utilize on-line formulation, ingredient and specification database systems
  • Engage supplier, internal and external technical experts and peers in project execution and problem solving
  • Execute experiments and prepare results for review
  • Develop prototypes that deliver product requests and project success criteria.  This will include ordering ingredients, optimizing formulations, conducting performance testing and making product for evaluation
  • Support other functional groups in development and execution of continuous improvement to meet the business objectives
  • Follow all site food safety, GMP, work safety and environmental requirements

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • BS in Food Science or related field required
  • 1 year relevant work experience

         Experience in formulation of baking applications (specifically, cookies and crackers) for a shelf stable product category is preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication
  • Pro-active self-starter, willing to accept responsibility for business tasks
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to collaborate in a team to achieve the desired results
  • May travel up to 30% of time.  Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible TreeHouse Private Brands representative

Physical Requirements:

  • Driving a company or rental automobile 4 to 6 hours as needed
  • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Walking and/or standing on various surface types
  • Lifting (note approximate weight and frequency, e.g. ability to lift 25 lbs on a regular basis, ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a sporadic basis)
  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis
  • Pushing/pulling
  • Cramped/confined space
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include:  loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions
  • Dirt, fumes, smoke
  • smells/allergies
  • food/eating
  • Frequent bending and/or crawling; must be able to move safely and freely around machinery
  • Air travel across the continental US and potentially into Canada
