Food Safety Technician/QA Document Specialist

Position Overview
This position is responsible for computing the daily production/usages as well as updating and maintaining the supplier, processing, and finished goods specifications/information for all retail products sold by our company. This will include all items at our Annandale facilities, and working with other facilities to manage their QA protocol and nutritional computations. This position will assist our QA/Sanitation Director in writing and maintaining programs, backing up line technicians and maintaining QA records as needed.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist with developing and delivering training for GMP meetings and maintain records accordingly.
  • Back up position for QA Techs and QA Director, perform Pre-Shipment Reviews and verify daily receiving records.
  • Review daily pre-operational inspections and Allergen swab results from previous night; problem solve and corrective actions if needed.
  • Assist in revising & maintaining SQF, HACCP, SSOP, GMP, Production Procedures, Food Safety and Quality Plan Procedures.
  • Follow and comply with GMP regulations as outlined in 21CFR110 for Good Manufacturing Practices and 9CFR for Animal and Animal Products.
  • Archiving and recording completed supplier and production documents.
  • Nutritional and ingredient declaration verification on all new and existing items. Create new item specs and review/maintain current item specs on a regular basis to ensure compliance.
  • Knowledge of FDA Food Labeling Regulations 21CFR101, Nutritional Quality Guidelines for Foods 21CFR104.
  • HACCP and Implementing SQF Systems certification required (will train).
  • HACCP team member; assists QA Director, as needed, reports food safety and quality issues to QA Director.
  • Assist with mock recalls to accommodate our traceability program requirements.

Additional Job Functions

  • Must be detail oriented and organized.
  • Takes initiative, is motivated, and creates ownership of the batch paperwork & production records, with little supervision.
  • Is highly organized and efficient. Must have good time management skills in order to work under deadlines with time constraints.
  • Must be forward thinking to assist in developing new programs as needed with the changing requirements of SQF/FDA/USDA and is open to new ideas and thoughts.
  • Must work well with a team and use good reasoning, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must follow all GMP’s and act as role model for QA Department
  • Must have a flexible schedule, by working late and weekends, if necessary.

Requirements

  • 2 yr degree preferred or at least previous experience with Quality Assurance/Food Science work
  • Typing and computer skills required with very good knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook, etc.
  • Mathematical Skills required to compute nutritional/ingredient information
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand the English language fluently
  • Background in Spanish helpful
