As a leader in the domain of product research, we are always looking for new talent that will complement our team and strengthen our services. Specifically, we are currently looking for a motivated and passionate individual to lead one of our client specific Food Panels. Our Food Panels consist of highly trained panelists who evaluate the appearance, flavor and texture of food products.
The panel leader directs panel operations and interacts with scientists and developers to manage product and data flow. Responsibilities include scheduling and leading panel in the development of lexicons and evaluation protocols as well as the appropriate use of scaling to effectively evaluate food products; appropriate test set-up and execution; valid data management and reporting results. In addition, the scope of the job includes ensuring compliance to testing protocols and communication with the Panel Coordinator for providing panel information.

Execute daily sessions of a Food Panel:

  • Work with the Panel Coordinator to manage sensory testing calendar and execution of panel studies
  • Interact with scientists and developers to ensure a clear understanding of project objectives, progress, product tracking, timelines and deliverables
  • Meet with Scientists to preview products, develop ballots and references needed
  • Learn all protocols required for leading panel sessions
  • Conduct project/product orientations to prepare panel for a study
  • Develop sample preparation, presentation and evaluation protocols
  • Coordinate with technician for the assigned tests
  • Conduct briefings for study execution; trouble shoot and resolve problems
  • Enter data and create results tables (raw data and sample mean data tables)
  • Work with Panel Coordinator or consultants when additional panel training is required
  • Develop training materials for new descriptive panelists
  • Train new panelists
  • Develop new category training materials as needed
  • Monitor and validate all panelists’ acuity through calibration projects and data analysis, providing refresher training as needed
  • Review processes, data issues, panel issues & scientist requests in order to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the testing center
  • Maintain attendance and payment records for panelists
  • Be a flexible, collaborative team player who can also work independently
  • Perform other duties as needed

Physical Demands

This position may require frequent standing and occasional squatting, kneeling, bending, lifting/carrying up to 20 lbs or pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, General Science, Marketing, Experimental Psychology or similar

Experience: One to two years related experience. Experience with teaching adults; quality control/assurance; product evaluation and managing part time workers a plus.

Computer Skills
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; One Drive and Sharepoint a plus
