Summary:

 

Residing at The Hershey Company's Technical Center, this position involves a unique opportunity to work in Sweets and Refreshments Product Development. With light direction, assume primary responsibility for undertaking and executing fundamental projects of significant importance, complexity, and scope with emphasis on solution of theoretical problems, or for supervising and coordinating the development efforts of projects having a significant impact on the Companyís current and/or future business interests. Undertake development projects as assigned, initiating own projects or recommending termination of projects as is necessary.  Independently determine technical approaches to be explored as they apply to assigned project or self-initiated projects.  Establish objectives and approaches to execute projects.  Secure appropriate information as necessary.  Solve problems through application of knowledge, experience, and original thinking, and testing solutions.  Responsible for the operation of complex equipment for experimentation as required. Evaluate results and draw conclusions from data.  Prepare project reports and presentations.  Acts as consultant throughout the Company on problems within area of expertise and make authoritative technical recommendations regarding projects to be undertaken and implementation of results. Interact closely with technical, professional and managerial staff of R&D as well as Marketing, Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality departments regarding technical or practical problem solutions.  Interact with other industries and institutions as required to exchange information and ideas in area of expertise.  Provide leadership and instruction to technicians and professionals assigned to assist on a project and provide coordination of efforts of other members of the project team as is necessary. The successful candidate will report to the groupís Sr. Manager and work with other senior management to establish strategic direction and goals for Product Development. 

 

Major Duties/Responsibilites:

 

Project Leadership:

         Provide leadership and instruction to technicians and professionals assigned to assist on a project and provide coordination of efforts of other members of the project as a team as is necessary

         Interact closely with a cross functional group of technical, professional, and managerial staff of R&D, as well as, production, engineering, and marketing. 

         Understand the business impact of the projects.

         Obtain and allocate resources for projects as necessary.

 

Evaluate results and draw conclusions from data.  Prepare project reports and presentations.

 

Responsible for the development of complex methods or the operation of complex equipment for experimentation as required.

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities: 

 

Food chemistry and/or food processing principles. Experience working with sugar confections is beneficial.

Advanced problem solving and evaluation capabilities

Effective strategic thinking and business integration skills.

Highly innovative and motivated individual.

Application of project management skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent troubleshooting skills.

Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

Education: Bachelorís Degree in a related field required (Chemical, Agricultural, or Food Engineering or Food Science). Masterís degree and/or Ph.D. a plus.

Experience: Minimum of 7 years professional work experience recommended. Education level will be taken into consideration when evaluating years of experience.
