Food Scientist - Dressings
The primary function of this Food Scientist position is to provide product development support for the Dressings NA R&D initiatives in support of Quality, Cost Savings and Complexity Reduction. The Candidate will independently research, conduct experiments, gather data, develop conclusions and prepare written reports as required to progress assigned initiatives. Additionally, the candidate is expected to develop the required expertise necessary to become the Dressing’s R&D group’ s designated power user for the software supporting all product formulation and technical specifications.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Primary duties and responsibilities of this position are to support the following work activities as part of Dressings NA R&D cross-functional team:
Assessment of technical feasibility from a product formulation standpoint and qualification of ingredient material alternatives recommended for replacement or supply contingency alternatives.
Support the technical project leader through the design and execution of test protocols and implementation of the various technical aspects of projects as required.
Organization and participation in plant trials while providing formulation adjustment recommendations as needed to support quality, cost savings and complexity reduction initiatives.
Complete final product design, specification development, and support factory start-up, to ensure on time, in full delivery of assigned projects.
Develop strong relationships and communicate effectively to manage assigned projects with Brand Managers, Innovation Based Product and Process Development teams, Central Processing Lab technical team, Regulatory, Supply Management Procurement, Supply Chain Manufacturing, Suppliers, and Unilever global and regional counterparts & contacts.
Support product quality improvement initiatives through review of consumer complaints and provision of technical recommendations for product formulation or specification revisions identified to address identified root causes of complaints.
Support of cost savings (VIP) initiatives and supply chain improvement projects including assessment of feasibility of new ideas and troubleshooting activities where product formulation knowledge is essential.
Adapt to daily challenges and priority changes within business environment.
- Bachelors in Food Science with 2 to 5 years experience or Masters in Food Science with 1 to 3 years experience.
- Experience in emulsions preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership in approaching technical solutions to business issues.
- Good oral and written communication skills
- 10-20% travel.
