The purpose of this position is to provide the Frozen business with technical support and expertise to develop and improve current products and processes. The individual will support the R&D Department by leading multiple projects of complex scope. The position will also require the individual to initiate and assist in new and improved product development as well as technical services support. Supervisory responsibilities may or may not be involved. The position will require the individual to work closely with the Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, customers and outside laboratories. The position is an in-house product and process developer but may require occasional travel. Position reports to the Manager of R&D.
Working hands-on with Frozen products in the lab and in plants
Monitor and improving existing processes, which will improve product quality and shelf life.
Develop product formulations and processes that meet consumer, customer and company needs.
Prepare prototypes of new, improved or cost reduced products. Conduct plant testing and shelf life studies for new or revised formulations.
Provide technical assistance to the entire organization regarding product and process difficulties.
Develop product and process specifications.
Develop label information, nutritional and ingredients.
Interface with vendors, suppliers, outside labs and consultants
Provide timely feed back to senior management staff and to members of the New Product Development Committee
Able to work independently with minimal supervision to achieve project results
Develop product concept ideas for the frozen category
DECISION-MAKING/ RECOMMENDATION RESPONSIBILITES
Determine which characteristics should be measured on raw material and finished goods.
Based on collected data be able to anticipate process improvements.
Evaluate processing difficulties and recommend corrective action.
Recommend new product categories for evaluation to senior management
Provide senior management with active project status reports
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/EDUCATON
B.S. in Food Science or Chemical Engineering
More than three years of food development experience with CPG Companies.
Knowledge of lab technique, project planning and management.
Frozen Foods Experience preferred
