Job Description

Responsible for the quality and food safety of Simmering Soup Atlanta products as well as the sanitation programs for the facility.

• Manage and provide leadership to the Quality and Food Safety department and its technical team

• Maintain the Quality Management System, with an emphasis on continuous improvement

• SQF Coordinator, responsible for the maintenance, promotion and continuous improvement of the SQF program with a view to ensuring food safety and quality

• HACCP Coordinator for the facility – responsible for managing all elements of HACCP including training, plant audits, mentoring and coaching to support the program.

• Ensure product quality and safety

• Determine best practices and establish corresponding procedures

• Develop, maintain and deliver training to production employees on HACCP, GMP and SQF to ensure the highest standards of food safety and quality, and to maintain compliance with USDA/FDA and customer requests

• Continually monitor conformance to procedure through regular observation as well as audits

• Address non-conformances through training or corrective action

• Monitor results of procedures through samples and testing, and through investigation of customer complaints with emphasis on conformance and audits of SOPs and GMPs

• Ensure compliance with relevant government laws regulations, such as the USDA/FDA requirements, FSMA updated requirements, and the Consumer Packaging and Labeling Act and Regulations

• Ensure effective communication with FSIS Inspector on site and effective and timely corrective action of notifications from USDA

• Facilitate inspections by FDA, SQF auditing body, and customers

• Lead new quality and food safety initiatives (both customer and industry driven)

• Collaborate with the Operations Manager and the Operations team to review quality data and minimize product variation

• Provide leadership on the investigation of customer complaints, ensuring corrective action is effectively implemented and communicated. Report on such investigations to the VP of Quality and Food Safety.

• Projects and other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager and VP of Quality and Food Safety

 

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of : HACCP and GMP’s; USDA regulations; Food and Drug regulations; Consumer Packaging Act and Regulations

• Familiar with the requirements of Global Food Safety Initiatives (SQF)

• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills

• Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills

• Ability to handle conflicting priorities from multiple sources

• High level of attention to detail  

• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word

• BS Degree in a life science or food science required
