Position Overview: The Quality Assurance Technician role combines skills from food safety, microbiology, basic chemistry, food science, and good manufacturing to assist our production team in maintaining clean, safe, high quality food manufacturing line. The Quality Assurance tech will work closely with the quality team, Quality Manager, COO, Krautmeister, Supply Chain Manager, and Production Manager through teamwork and innovation to maintain integrity of process controls and continually improve our processing and sanitation systems, both in day-to-day monitoring programs and larger improvement projects. As a small but fast growing company, cross-training, and participation in all aspects of plant operation will be just an aspect of the opportunities that continue to grow here.

Essential Job Functions:
Participate in Quality Assurance Lab by following GLPs, SOPs, and inventory of related supplies. Work with Managers on SOP, SSOP, and HACCP trainings.

  • Participate in Food Safety programs and regular verification of scheduled activities.
  • Conduct Daily QA checks. (i.e., sanitizer strengths, chemical labelling, hand washing counts, salt and acid/base titration, swab and sample micro plating, pH).
  • Expanding scope of Quality Assurance program by identifying opportunities for improvement of process and process monitoring.
  • Collecting and organizing data to support data-driven improvements to product specifications and manufacturing.
  • Assist in managing 3rd party Certifying agencies. (CCOF, Non-GMO Project, Audits).
  • Organize regular in-house audits of all safety and sanitation programs.
  • Participate in training new operations personnel in sanitation and sensory analysis or ingredients and finished products.
  • Participate in implementation of new products.
  • Assist with R&D trials related to continuous improvement.

Non-Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist production/warehouse teams in times of high-demand.
  • Run errands / perform miscellaneous tasks for various departments.
  • Participate in management and production team meetings and presentations.
  • Assist in training personnel on quality guidelines, safety, and production SOPs.

Skills required:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluent in Excel, word and basic Office programs
  • Background in chemistry, botany, microbiology, fermentation, or food science (at least 2 years of college with science courses, AS degree or BS degree - preferred)
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Must work in both warm, cold, and wet environments
  • Work safely around hazardous chemicals
  • HACCP Certified (or ability to obtain HACCP certification as a condition of hiring)
  • Current Food Handlers Card (or ability to obtain as a condition of hiring)
  • Ability to record, organize, and interpret data
  • Ability to taste / smell and evaluate food and ingredients for quality parameters
