Job Summary:

Study mechanisms and effects of foods and food components on health and disease risk with a focus on cellular and whole organism metabolism, models of obesity and age-related diseases, and developmental and life-span nutrition. The research addresses highly relevant societal issues through implementation and evaluation of nutrient and food-based interventions and their impact on individuals, society and public health; policy implications of these interventions; examining nutritional status of diverse populations; clinical biomarkers of health and disease; and nutrition education in schools, communities and food assistance programs. The department is committed to extending science-based information to the public through local, state, national and international channels.  


Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Food Science, Nutrition Science or closely related field, postdoctoral research experience, a strong publication record, and demonstrated potential to obtain external research funding. Minimum of five years of postdoctoral research experience. At least two years' experience as an independent researcher. Demonstrated ability to secure extramurally funded grants. Demonstrated ability to conduct basic and translational research related to structure-function relationships of plant polyphenols and human health. Ability to plan, conduct and publish innovative high quality research that can attract significant extramural funding.
