The Research Associate role is an entry-level position on the Lux Research team. Research Associates map the landscape of innovation in emerging technologies to help clients make better decisions about investments, partnerships, and strategy. Research Associates identify and analyze patents, scientific publications, and financial transactions, drawing on this work to develop and maintain a structured database.  They also manage the process of inviting companies and research labs to brief the Lux Research team, and help to produce the weekly Lux Research Journal intelligence service. 
 
Responsibilities:

         Conduct secondary research drawing on diverse sources, including business and trade press articles, scientific publications, patent filings, and conference presentations.

         Maintain a pipeline of briefings with senior executives at innovative companies as well as leaders of cutting-edge university and government labs.

         Author descriptive documents that profile the emerging technology activities of start-up companies, large corporations, and research laboratories.

         Assist with the production of research reports and other client deliverables.

         Help manage the operations of a rapidly-growing, geographically-dispersed team.

 
This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate with science or engineering degrees looking for his/her first professional job!  An undergraduate or Master's degree in life sciences is required.  (Preferred:  Food science, Nutrition science, Food engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular biology)

Requirements:

         Undergraduate degree with outstanding record of academic achievement and a major in the life sciences (food science, nutrition science, food engineering, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology).  One to two years of work experience is a plus.

         Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to juggle multiple tasks.

         Deep intellectual curiosity about emerging technologies, particular interest in food technologies highly desirable.

         Willingness to do whatever it takes to meet client needs in a fast-moving, rapidly growing, start-up-like environment.

         Entrepreneurial, enthusiastic, collegial, and collaborative approach to work.

         Ability to write clearly about business and technical topics.

         Comfort in calling into companies and research labs to schedule briefings.

         Excellent written and spoken command over English. Proficiency in multiple languages a plus. 

         Excellent office software skills (Word, Powerpoint, and Excel) and the ability to meet deadlines is critical.

Other Important Qualifying Information:

         This is an entry-level position and is not appropriate for Ph.D. or post-doc candidates.

         We are seeking candidates local to the Boston metro area. There is no relocation assistance associated with this role.
