POSITION OVERVIEW
The Formulation Technician performs a variety of duties for the R&D Department associated with new product development and maintenance of existing products. These responsibilities include creating and updating technical documentation associated primarily with nutritional supplement and functional food products. May assist with some aspects of personal care and household product documentation. Interact with ingredient suppliers and third party manufacturers to insure effective technical transfer of data. Facilitate ingredient sourcing and interdepartmental requests. Assist with the preparation and testing of lab formulas, ingredient and formula research and maintaining ingredient and innovation databases.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain, organize and update electronic files
  • Create product dossiers
  • Update ingredient and formulation databases
  • Generate, update and review Master Formula documents
  • Work with Operations and Third-Party Manufactures to create and maintain product and raw material specifications
  • Assist with the preparation and testing of lab formulas
  • Meet with raw material vendors and 3rd party manufacturers
  • Review and file test results
  • Obtain raw material documentation from ingredient suppliers
  • Source raw material replacements
  • Use library and internet skills to investigate new ingredients and technologies
  • Research interdepartmental technical requests
  • Facilitate product performance reviews
  • Initiate workflows for Change Control Requests (CCR)
  • Assist with product and raw material deviations
  • Use Baan, Sire, Sharepoint and other software applications

EXPERIENCE WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or a related field. Experience in a technical discipline, especially chemistry or biology related disciplines, will also be considered.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing, equipment and procedures
  • Attention to detail particularly when reviewing documents
  • Strong chemistry and math skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft® Office applications
  • Capable of following complex instructions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
