Food Safety and Quality Assurance Director

This Position Reports Directly To: Chief Operations Officer

The Food Safety/Quality Assurance Director is responsible for; ensuring our customers are provided with quality products that meet or exceed all food safety and quality standards, responsible for ensuring and maintaining a food safe environment through compliance to all requirements of programs/policies for Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP instilling confidence that Honeyville, Inc. will protect the goodwill of their brands, with a priority to a culture of food safety and quality. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, oversee and enforce all of the food safety regulations, policies, and procedures and programs including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), Safe Quality Food (SQF), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), regulatory audits, food safety training programs, standard operating procedures (SOPís), product inspections, and standardized work instructions.
  • Design and implement a robust food safety and quality assurance program.
  • Champion the education and training of personnel on all food safety practices and standards.
  • Work with the management team to implement and improve the food safety quality system. Provide guidance on best practices through the entire supply chain and through delivery to the customer.
  • Oversee proper sanitation of all facilities to comply with food safety requirements.
  • Create and monitor business metrics to track compliance and process effectiveness. Execute internal and external food safety audits on a regular basis.
  • Leverage technology to manage compliance processes.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans for all quality and customer complaint issues.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and changes affecting food safety to make recommendations for appropriate program changes to ensure governmental compliance.
  • Incorporate Food Safety industry best practices into product handling processes for receipt, storage, transportation and disposal of food.
  • Able to demonstrate the abilities in the design and implementation of all criteria relative to a robust food safety and quality program.
  • Develop the food safety team through ongoing coaching and mentoring.
  • Perform assignments and directives provided by the executive management team.

Qualifications:

  • HACCP and SQF certified, familiarity with micro testing, and food safety recall protocols.
  • Minimum 7 yearsí experience with multi-site coverage.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office Ė Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Food safety experience, with strong working knowledge of US food manufacturing including Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)ís, SOPís, HACCP, SQF, Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) readiness and compliance, auditing and inspections as well as environmental guidelines.
  • Previous experience designing and implementing a food safety and quality assurance program.
  • Strong understanding of National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Standards and sanitary design requirements for food equipment.
  • Strong background in leadership and talent development.

Qualifications contíd:

  • Continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing experience.
  • Must be able to travel as required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in food science or food process engineering preferred or equivalent combination of education/experience.
