The Food Technologist reports to the R&D Manager and using kitchen
experience as well as chemistry, microbiology, engineering, and other
sciences analyzes samples and evaluates against product, quality, and
customer requirements. Researches ways to make processed foods safe,
palatable, and healthful, and applies food science knowledge to determine
best ways to process, package, preserve, store, and distribute food.
Evaluates samples and determines if further testing and analysis is needed
in the Quality Lab. Also reviews food processing procedures in the plant.
Develop and evaluate operating policies and
procedures to ensure the production of products that consistently meet
quality, quantity and delivery time objectives.
Accurately log and review sample data to determine if further
testing/analysis is needed; review with R&D
Manager for next steps.
Occasionally analyze samples against quality requirements and/or as a
result of customer complaints.
Test new products for flavor, texture, color, nutritional content and adherence
to government and industry standards.
Write and evaluate processing procedures to ensure these meet quality
standards and avoid contamination.
Review with management potential improvements to processing or packaging to
improve product quality.
Review how food products interact with packaging over time or in varying
Store samples under refrigerator and/or other temperatures for the required
length of time and properly dispose of after expiration.
Work on projects related to overall plant production, quality and safety
procedures and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
BS degree in Food Science, Bakery Science or related field.
Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent math skills.
2+ years of experience in a manufacturing and/or food processing
Experience in the food manufacturing industry.
Experience in a scientific laboratory.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Good communication skills, written and verbal.
Well organized and detail oriented.
Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
Must be willing to comply with pre-employment screening, including but not
limited to: drug testing, reference verification and background check.
Ability to prioritize and work in a fast paced, deadline driven
Working knowledge of QA, GMP, food product manufacturing and project management.
