Position Description

Overview

Manage the bakery/baked goods new product development projects as assigned to achieve stated timelines. To communicate the project goals to external and internal team members. To provide technical expertise at our organic bread bakery.

 

  • Work closely with marketing to define and develop new bakery products or line extensions.
  • Develop new products on tight timelines.
  • Perform bench work as required to develop product prototypes.
  • Direct and/or coordinate any plant trials necessary for the development of these products.
  • Thoroughly understand supply chain issues that affect successful launch of projects.
  • Work with manufacturing and or co-manufacturing management to insure progress of product development.
  • Work with the Regulatory group to develop NLEA and assure label claims are met.
  • Gather/direct appropriate documentation for specification development such as nutritional information, organic, GEI or kosher certifications.
  • Develop specifications for those products.
  • Work closely with QA to assure product attributes are defined and communicated
  • Work closely with corporate R&D/QA database to assure all documents that support product claims are entered into database (Product Vision)
  • Work to maintain accurate formulations in database
  • Lead technical assistance to all corporate divisions in troubleshooting formulation or product quality issues.
  • Learn and be a resource for in-depth knowledge of company product’s attributes, qualities and history 
  • Network with Industry and Academia to bring product innovation to the business
  • The projects will be diverse and reach across the corporate portfolio.  Projects can and will be assigned as needed outside of the baking projects given skill set of this employee.

Position Requirements

•Education – A degree from a four year college or university with a preference for a degree in food science or appropriate biological science.
•Work Experience – 4 years direct bakery production experience in breads and other baked products. Organic and/ or gluten free experience helpful.
•Management Experience – At least four years of new product development project management experience in bakery manufacturing and product development.
•Language Skills – Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals and government regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, individuals or outside vendors.
•Computer Experience – Intermediate or above knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software programs. Able and willing to learn and use R&D database (Product Vision).
•Reasoning Skills – Ability to resolve complex problems and deal with a variety of variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
•Mathematical Skills – Ability to calculate figures and apply basic algebra and geometry.
•Required to travel as needed. Travel will especially be required to our organic bread bakery in Boulder, CO.
•Ability to meet attendance guidelines.
•Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with all contacts both inside and outside the company.
