Job Title:                              QA Food Technologist – Food Safety

Department:                         Quality Assurance

Reports To:                          Sr. Food Technologist-Microbiology




This position is part of the Quality Assurance team and manages activities related to food safety on the plant floor.  Primary functions include execution of microbiology programs for product and the process environment, BRC related programs, and HACCP prerequisite programs.  Investigations, reporting and document updates are required.    

The individual works closely with members of Quality Assurance, Technical Services, Sanitation, and Plant Operations.


·   Execution of Environmental and ATP programs

·       Data monitoring and trending

·       Review meetings

·       Investigations with root cause analysis (RCA)and corrective action (CA)

·   GFSI Compliance Lead

·       Maintain GFSI clause library

·       Preparation for yearly audits

·       Internal audit lead

·       Non-conformance follow-up

·       Glass/hard plastics register

·       RCA and CA program compliance

·       Assist in ongoing training of operations teams

·   WIP and finished product sampling program

·   Review out-of-specification WIPs and Finished Products

·       Proficient in Oracle

·       Batch Sheet Review

·       Investigations (data collection, reports, RCA/CA, meetings)

·   Audit pre-requisite programs for compliance and assist in corrective action

·   Food safety document updates

·   Foreign material investigations



To perform this job successfully, the individual must have strong communication skills, a background in food science or food safety, ability to work and coordinate with a team, and ability to complete projects independently. Scheduling flexibility is required for occasional work on 2nd and 3rd shift and weekends as required by plant processing.


·   Bachelor of Science, preferably in Food Science or Microbiology


·   1-3 years work experience in Food Manufacturing

·   Quality Control/Quality Assurance experience is a plus

·   Continuous improvement experience is a plus

·   Experience in a USDA facility is a plus

·   Experience in BRC or GFSI standard is a plus


·   HACCP Certified, or willing to obtain HACCP Certification

·   Excellent interpersonal and assertiveness skills necessary to maintain effective and cordial working relationships

·   Excellent communication skills both verbal and written; ability to relate to all internal levels of the organization

·   SOP development and technical writing skills

·   Computer literate                           

·   Detail oriented

·   Reliable/dependable

·   Valid US Driver’s License



·   Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

·   Ability to effectively present detailed information to all levels of management
