Job Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  This is a senior product development position within the Research & Development organization. The incumbent is responsible for leading R&D beverage innovation within our growth acceleration team (SEED team).  Primary responsibilities include translating new beverage trends into viable product ideas, actively participating in consumer research on these ideas and assessing technical capabilities to deliver these ideas.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Foster innovative ideas and products in new categories beyond the current business with a focus on beverages that support nutrition, health, and wellness of our consumers.
  • Work with business and commercial leaders to identify emerging trends in beverage and new areas of opportunity for break through innovation.  Facilitate and foster the ideation of possible new products with an emphasis on establishing points of difference versus competitors, high nutrition/health/wellness, food safety/quality, creativity, and passion for food.
  • Plan, execute, and manage the development of prototype products in lab, pilot plant and at production facilities.  Maintain stringent technical and experiment documentation.
  • Source and maintain vendor relationships to secure the necessary ingredients and packaging that align with prevailing company standards.
  • Facilitate needed sensory evaluations and consumer taste panels. Utilize consumer insights to improve product formulation.
  • Ensure all developed products meet internal and external guidelines for nutrition, regulatory affairs, and food labeling.
  • Provide oral and written progress updates to stakeholders and business leaders. Must be able to clearly articulate technical product information in a format that is understandable to non-technical audiences.

Job Requirements:

PREFERRED CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education and Experience:
 

  • The following combination of education and experience is required for this position.
    • Bachelorís degree in food science, nutrition, or closely related field with at least 7 years of relevant progressive experience
    • Masterís or PhD degree in food science, nutrition, or closely related field with at least  5 years of relevant progressive experience
  • Prior experience must include significant product development and/or research experience working with leading consumer packaged goods (CPG) producer(s)
  • Significant prior experience working in beverages is required
  • Experience working with nutrition focused products highly preferred

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated product development capabilities with successful in-market products that demonstrate meaningful points of difference, and deliver against increasing consumer expectations on clean, pure, and simple ingredients.
  • Articulate in sensory, consumer testing and ability to create great tasting beverages
  • Aware of consumer trends in ingredients and nutrition
  • Passionate about creating, rapid prototyping, development and commercialization of ideas
  • Strong understanding of Nutrition, whole foods, and ingredient science required
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Solid project management skills and proven ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Strong time management capabilities
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Must be willing to travel up to 30%
