Leclerc, a North American leader in the snack food manufacturing industry, is seeking a R&D Manager to join our new team in Phoenix, AZ.

Leclerc, a thriving family company, manufactures snack bars, crackers and cookies for distribution to more than twenty countries all over the world. For more than 100 years, Leclerc has successfully balanced innovation, freshness, and good taste, pleasing customers of all ages. For the past decade, Leclerc invests in the U.S. with state-of-the-art production facilities in PA and TN. While both plants are destined for growth in the near future, Leclerc has just closed the purchase of its third plant in the U.S. which is strategically located in the southwest. Not unlike Leclerc¡¯s five existing plants (3 are in Canada), this future production site will be high tech and devoted to some of the niche products Leclerc proudly prepares for its clientele.

Summary of position

The R&D Manager is responsible for all procedures related to new products development, renewal and improvement of existing products, as well as optimizing current fabrication processes.

The R&D Manager makes sure that established fabrication procedures are respected in order to guarantee products of the highest quality. The complete range of all categories of products has to be exploited including but not limited to: cereals, granola bars, cookies and crackers. The incumbent is responsible for associate development including recruiting, training, coaching, developing tools and balancing work assignments. This position is deemed a safety sensitive position in the state of Arizona

Responsibilities

*Strategic Component*:

Plan and coordinate all activities related to new product development;

Participate actively in a variety of continuous improvement projects;

Provide scientific and technical leadership for project management and evaluation;

Analyze food habits/trends of the population;

Formulate recommendations in order to develop new or improve current products, product upgrades, new or improved processes and cost savings;

Stay abreast of the competition;

Analyze and anticipate proactively market movement, customers, and consumers;

Work collaboratively with multiple departments in all aspects of product roll-out;

Responsible for resolution of technical issues that arise during the development, production, operational or performance based;

Leadership Component:

Mentor, coach, lead direct and indirect reports as needed;

Actively participate in recruitment and professional development of staff;

Actively communicate research, insights and innovation priorities and project status to Operations partners to assure alignment and action plant to address issues.

Contribute to annual operation plan and long range strategic vision of department and company;

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in food science;

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the food industry;

1-3 years in a leadership role preferred;

Strong knowledge of the health & wellness food market;

Knowledge of Gluten free, GMO free and Organic products;

Demonstrated effective leadership towards communication, cooperation and mobilization;

Is able to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams: Sales, Marketing, Product Development and Operations;

Demonstrated mathematical skills working in all units of measure; ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage and interpret.

Strong proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office applications;

Understanding of food production and processing;

Thorough knowledge of food safety standards, HACCP and SOP;

Possess good organizational competencies and an excellent capacity of analysis;

Must be creative, innovative and passionate about food.
