Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Is responsible for developing innovative and competitive products for our consumers that are delightful and appealing in taste, aroma, texture, appearance, and are producible on large scale and are trusted and safe.
  • Coordinates product development efforts closely with internal stakeholders such as Marketing, Operations and Quality to ensure targeted products deliver against a consumer need, are scalable and comply fully with regulatory and food safety standards.
  • Builds and leverages external relationships with science and technology solution providers and vendors to maximize external capacity and competence. Is leveraging external ideas and combining those with individual creativity and internal scientific capability.
  • Develops and proposes new innovations, initiates technical feasibility assessment, secures intellectual property and is aware if freedom to operate exists.
  • As required, leads or supports cross-functional teams with product development activities in either product improvements and line extensions initiatives.
  • Applies latest Food Science and Technology knowledge to product/process development initiatives. Applies statistical experimental design principles to product/process development.
  • Applies project management principles to product development. Leads product development projects from concept to commercialization, including development of overall technical project plan, and meeting milestones and launch deadlines.
  • Effectively communicates results with project team members and leadership team during stage gate reviews and other cross-functional forums. Documents research in understandable form in research reports.
  • As appropriate, lead or co-lead sensory and microbiological shelf life studies of existing and new products.
  • Conducts process improvement activities at pilot and plant scale (including experimental design, plant sampling, documenting plant process parameters, collecting data, analyzing the data and providing technical insights and reports on the results). Develop and utilize a collaborative relationship with Process Engineering to manage scale up processes.
  • Co-lead process and packaging development studies leading to commercialization. Identify alternative methods of manufacturing.

Qualification Requirements and Preferences:

  • Masterís Degree in Food Science or a related field required; Ph.D. preferred. Food engineering experience highly preferred.
  • Minimum 5-year experience in food product development in major CPG company.
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects from concept to commercialization
  • Is self driven, creative and innovative. Has business acumen.
  • Proven ability to leverage scientific insight for process or product development.
  • Has experience with marketing teams to develop new product concepts based on consumer insights and working on multi-functional project teams.
  • Is experienced in working in a matrixed and highly collaborative team oriented environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.∑
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and multi-tasking skills, as well as the ability to interact and collaborate successfully with all levels and functional area.
  • Travel as necessary (15% to 20%)
