Job Description

This position supports Technical Services Team initiatives by supporting product development projects from concept to commercialization. Responsibilities include documentation, finalization and scale-up of product formulas (both new products and revisions), conducting product testing, preparing R&D samples and supporting plant trials. This position reports to the Technical Services Director.


  • Act as liaison between NPD chefs/food scientists in the concept test kitchen and Technical Services/Production teams to facilitate the successful commercialization of new product concepts, product improvements and/or cost savings objectives.
  • Observe, test, document and finalize test kitchen product formulas to effectively scale-up and transition the product formula to the plant manufacturing environment.
  • Actively participate in weekly trial / launch team meetings
  • Coordinate plant trials in a timely manner according to issued trial schedule, including:
    • Develop preliminary work instructions reviewed by supervisor prior to trial execution
    • Coordinate set-up of accounting / work order system to support trial execution
    • Monitor, record, analyze and report plant trial data to meet trial objectives
    • Coordinate provision and sensory evaluation of kitchen “gold standards” against products made in plant trials
  • Assist with 1st production start-ups, including:
    • Assist Technical Services with timely finalization of work instructions
    • Provide training to Production / Quality Control personnel as needed
  • Assist with auditing product performance and adherence to manufacturing procedures after product launch.
  • Perform product quality testing as needed to support development or monitor product performance.
  • Coordinate organization, storage of equipment/materials and clean-up of R&D facilities
  • Perform various administrative duties, such as sample management, data entry, and shipping
  • Occasional overnight travel
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Adhere to GMP’s, Standard Operating Procedures, and Safety Regulations consistently
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science / Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry or related science field and 2-3 years of experience in food or beverage manufacturing.
  • Working within a laboratory environment
  • Working knowledge of food manufacturing, quality and food safety systems, sanitation, allergens, SOP’s and safety protocols
  • Effective computer skills using MS Office products
  • Able to accept and interpret direction competently and professionally
  • Able to perform tasks independently and as part of a team to accomplish goals.
  • Effectively manage priorities and dynamic deadlines
  • Self-motivated, flexible and positive in a fast-paced business environment
  • Efficient time management and communication
  • Food science knowledge
  • Technical writing and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work in accordance with safety and food safety policies

  • Work unusual hours as required to accomplish job tasks.
  • Effective English language literacy; oral and written communication skills. Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
