Job Description

Ensure all products manufactured at the plant meet the quality and food safety standards established by DFA, all relevant regulatory agencies, and our customers. Direct the Quality Assurance and Compliance efforts and the laboratory employees to ensure that staffing is in place for all shifts and that personnel are properly carrying out the responsibilities assigned to them. Serve as the liaison with our customers on finished product quality issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise and schedule lab work.

Approve all procedures, documents, charts, and paper work.

Develop, organize, and administer training for plant employees on HACCP, GMP's, SQF, and related food safety topics

Act as coordinator for the HACCP program, facilitate committee meetings, and review HACCP documentation daily

Implement and maintain Quality Systems to ensure manufactured products meet all specifications

Ensure all plant personnel are operating in compliance with plant and corporate procedures for Food Safety, Quality, and Safety

Ensure that plant is operating in compliance with all customer, FDA and government regulations and SQF Certification requirements

Maintain product, packaging and ingredient specifications.

Review COA's (Certificates Of Analysis) for all incoming ingredients and packaging materials.

Assist production and operations management with development and implementation of corrective actions and appropriate documentation in response to audit and inspection findings

Review laboratory and production documents daily to assess the quality of products, determine that products meet customer specifications, and approve products for release to customers

Manage product "Hold and Release" programs for finished products and incoming goods

Work with chemical and pest control provider.

Oversee PEM (Pathogen Environmental Monitoring) program.

Fill in on lab work- cheese and condensed milk testing.

Maintain facilities according to corporate and safety guidelines. Maintain, operate, and calibrate lab equipment.

Assist in making calculations and preparing charts, drawings, and reports.

Adhere to all control and laboratory safety protocols.

Repair and maintain standard laboratory equipment.

Clean and maintain laboratory hygiene.

Clean and maintain laboratory hygiene.

Order lab supplies.

Communicate with outside labs: state regulatory lab, consulting labs, specialty labs.

Comply with federal, state and corporate regulations and requirements. Satisfy corporate and customer quality and production specifications.

Daily reconciliation of milk receiving logs, scale tickets, milk route, and production charts: cheese/ condensed milk.

Supervise Milk receiving: AB testing, receiving logs.

Supervise condenser operator: cream testing, milk used in production of condensed milk / cheese

SAP systems.

Follow all DFA GMP's and work in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory food safety, quality and sanitation requirements

Other duties as assigned.



BS or BA in related field (Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, etc.)

3+ years related experience food-production laboratory, quality control or compliance.

1+ year of supervisory experience, in a food production lab preferred.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with other departments, regulatory agencies, customers and consultants.

Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.

Ability to analyze data and generate effective reports.

Ability to understand food industry regulations and their impact to the organization. (USDA, FDA, FSMA, SQF etc.)

Handle complex assignments with minimal supervision, effective coaching, and leadership, attention to detail, and follow through on projects.

Computer knowledge with ability to learn and use SAP transactions related to this position.
