Job Purpose


This position contributes to the development process of new products and offerings of the product portfolio from conception to pre-industrialization stage. The position will also contribute to the development of existing and new categories, ensuring that the development of new products are in line with the existing targets of quality, time-scale and costs.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  1. Develop and/or improve recipes and products in line with the authenticity guidelines and by evaluating consumer preferences leveraging sensory and market research tools
  2. Leverage consumer insights and transform them into product applications.
  3. Provide technical direction and expertise by leveraging the latest developments and technology.
  4. Develop bench top prototypes that are feasible to scale up and run trials on industrial lines.
  5. Manage industrial trial/production at copackers.
  6. Provide innovative, timely and cost-effective product improvements.
  7. Define and develop product specifications.
  8. Communicate and coordinate with various functions both at Barilla America and Italy (i.e., Marketing, Brand Development & Innovation, ,Global Research, Development & Quality,Purchasing, Packaging) to ensure project timeline adherence.
  9. Effectively work on cross-functional teams and be able to clearly express technical perspective to achieve team goals.
  10. Leverage Barilla nutrition team to guide product development and support Barilla nutritional positioning.
  11. Manage product evaluations cross functionally as needed.

Requirements

 

· Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Engineering or related field; MS or Ph.D. preferred

· 5-7 years of experience working in Food Product Development

· Experience in Hot filled and retorted sauces/condiments processes preferred

· In-depth understanding of product development processes

· Good understanding of the common food process (thermal treatments, food machineries, etc)

· Experience in process improvement

· Background/knowledge in Quality preferred

· Strong leadership and problem-solving skills

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Experience in managing people preferred

· Experience in managing budgets preferred

· Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and potentially internationally
